So I had my PS3 in an enclosed area and whenever I used it the fans kicked into high gear due to the shatty ventilation.

I've since moved it to a very well ventilated area open on all sides... and whenever Im not playing... I put folding on to run... PS3 always ran quiet with Folding on.

I come home last night and the fan is raging loud as if its not ventilated again--- and all it was doing is folding!

Anyone else got their fan raging from a folding session?

Have you kept up on the maintenance of your PS3? Manual recommends a low power vaccuum to remove accumulated dust through the vents. Excessive dust can cause electronics to not dissipate heat as well.

I maintain alot of electronics in my house... but after minimal useage of the PS3 does it really require a vaccuuming?

I'll do it, but I figured the new home for it with the good airflow would be enough... it only operated in its previous environment for 10-20 min at a time.

Could work, ill give it a try and report back. Should upgrade the HD while im at it...

I hear what you are saying, but it appears that the PS3 is sensitive to dust accumulation. It does affect it's ability to dissipate the heat properly. I usually just use my vaccuum hose on the vents whenever I'm vaccuuming the carpet nearby. This way I'm keeping up on it regularly.

Also, keep in mind that folding is very processor intensive. In fact, more so than most games or movies.
