This is the game that will finally pull me away from COD4. GTA4 is ok, but I find myself not as involved in the story. Resistance kept me plugging away and engaged - and this second installment looks to be raising the bar significantly. Going to be a blast.

Too bad the vid quality sucks - I'd like better shots of some of that gameplay footage...

Everything Insomniac touches is gold. Part one was engaging, long, fun, great levels/good graphics. Ratchet & Clank was all of the above........R2 will be better than all of them.

Nice! I didn't expect it to get leaked so soon. Seems fairly rough but I love the layout of that level. It looks like somewhere in the northwest, Washington or Oregon.

turned you off? you just saw a crappy encoding of 2 minutes of deathmatch gameplay. there is way more to the game, not to mention they havent even started to make the game look good. at least, thats what they have been talking about in their podcasts. some good info there, cant wait to hear and see more on June 12th.

im not a big multiplayer fan, so the campaign is what im definitely excited to see.

The new Chimera character has a striking resemblence to the guys from I am Legend. They just run at you like fodder.

The choice to go down to a 2 weapon system is an interesting one in my book. I'll be honest and say that Resistance was my first Insomniac game and one thing that really brought me into that was all the cool weapons you could carry around and switch between. Ratchet and Clank Future just upped the ante so I find it interesting that Insomniac's trademark is being removed here. I understand they're going to keep a lot of crazy weapons in but not having access to them at all times seems like an odd choice.

At any rate, the game looks awesome. I loved the original and I'm sure the sequel won't disappoint. It will be interesting to see how it looks compared to the original and how the graphics hold up to what's being done now. The multiplayer footage they showed seemed as though it didn't look that great, but it's also still in development so who knows how much more optimizing they'll do there. All in all, very much looking forward to Resistance 2.

I'm not liking the recoil on the guns. I loved just holding down the trigger and seeing the awesome animations of the guns at work. They should lower the health of the enemies, so were not using an entire clip on the them, but I don't want to see recoil.

Looks great. Much bigger and more epic, with way more structures and enemies on screen than the first one. Can't wait for the multi. There are some glitches in the graphics but its insane to complain about it when the game is 5+ months from release. I wasn't crazy about either Resistance or R&C: Future but I trust Insomniac will deliver.

Not likely. Insomniac is probably the best dev in the business as far as meeting announced launch dates.

On topic: joerod, just understand that it was a launch game so the visuals aren't as good as Uncharted or MGS4. However the game play, especially the solo adventure, is still top notch.

I hate betas. To me it takes away from the excitement of a big game release. I find it hard to believe the developer really needs the supposed info they learn from them as well. Oh well.....seems like its becoming more and more common.

The types of questions they're asking might be useful for accceptability to a beta. The address questions make it seem like they'll send you promotional stuff in the mail.

Are there going to be different MP classes? Would the interest choices on there parallel them? If not I could see them at least sending specific stuff based on what choice you made there--special briefings/intel, etc. Cool stuff, I loved the website and promo stuff they did for the first one. Glad to see they're keeping it up.

The trailer itself is moody, and not your typical game trailer. I think the last scene in the trailer should give you plenty to FAP over.


And here's a little info on the tuesday conference.
What Ted shows on stage is pretty big though (both gameplay, and the still shots). And we have a bit more to show some journalists in breakout sessions during the show --- but we've made a Ted commentary video that will get released eventually so you'll be able to see some of that as well.

Gamespot interview/demo with Ted Price and James Stevenson. Around the 9 minute mark you can see that awesome shot of San Fransico from the teaser played in real time. Just before that they also show off a new Magnum pistol that fires explosive rounds which can be remotely detonated. Also Ted states flat-out there won't be any vehicles to drive in R2.

I will start with that I will be buying this game no matter what. However, when I just watched the video on G4's web site for this exclusive hands on demo play, I was totally dissapointed. Actually it looked horrible. The big creature looked freaking awesome. But as Nathan ran up the stairs it looked bad, when he got to the top and was in building it looked down right bad. The guy running the demo quickly ran out and went up the ramps. I was not impressed with the visuals in this demo (other then the creature).

Those screens look much better than some of the stuff on the trailer. If the MP on this one stacks up against the first one then this one is already a must buy for me, but I hope Insomniac can put some polish on the visuals.

I think July was mentioned for a video of the gameplayor something like that. I just want it as soon as its released. I must say RFOM is one of the best games I ever beat.

Most speculation is November. I have to imagine they will do everything they can to get this out the door for holiday season. My guess is we will see a "two-tier" marketing campaign - LBP for the casual gamers and kid friendlies, R2 for the shooter fans.

Ok on insomniacs homepage it just says fall release in a Q & A section. So that means anywhere from the end of September til the end of December. To be fair, Resistance 1 was fairly plain in terms of graphical complexity, but it made up for it with the sheer amount of things happening in each frame. Resistance 2 looks to continue the tradition.

I could care less if the graphics are plain I am sooooo looking forward to the 60 player online co-op. No lag dedicated servers, man I'll be in gaming heaven

I tend to agree, then rewatched the E3 08 off the PSN store in HD (Third part). It looked a lot better, lighting off the gun, monster detail. I still feel some things needed improvements like the building textures, water and the three soliders just standing there when you first see the monster.

I have faith in Insomniac and think what they showed was far from complete. Even with the video shown in mid July (think it was still an old build) I figure they have 4 months left, July,August,Sept,and Oct.

I can't wait for this game but think Gears of Wars 2 will beat it out it terms of graphics. Makes me wonder what Resistance 2 would have looked like with only 5 on 5 online play though. :confused:

FWIW, dedicated servers does not mean no lag... but I do agree it's often much better that player hosted servers.

Definitely. After having watched and listened to old style news radio broadcaster talk about the game, it just fits so well with the style of the time. I expect another fantastic game from Insomniac.

I agree. For the scale of enemy numbers combined with 8-player co-op, it's pretty amazing. The lighting engine in that vid really shows how much they improved the the sequel. Here are some more pics.

Wasn't a big fan of the original, but I love Super Metroid to death. The GBA Metroid Fusion was also excellent, I thought they did a very good job of mixing a narrative into the classic gameplay.

You can pre-order from amazon it even has a release date of Nov. 4th on the website. I have never ordered from them so dont reAlly want R2 to be my first ya know what I mean

OK heres a dumb question. If say I pre-order thru amazon will I have it the day its released or will they be shipping it the day its released? I also would like to get in on the beta testing if at all possible.

You won't get it earlier. Retail stores put the game up on shelves the day after they get it. The day they get it (usually, some titles ship to stores earlier) is the 'release date' - this is also the same day places like Amazon send them out. So at best, if you have overnight shipping, you'd get it in the mail the same day it goes up on shelves.

First I thought, "wow, I'm getting some kind of weird sex call" and I was like "cool" but I kept that thought in my head because my wife was laying next to me.

Anyway, I put the phone next to her ear, so I couldn't hear most of what was said. My wife said that the lady "asked for my help because she could not kill them all on her own". I did catch at the very end before she hung up say to visit PROJECT ABRAHAM.

That's when it clicked. It was a call from the Resistance 2 thing that we signed up to a long time ago. They are really taking this viral stuff to new heights and it's really got me excited.

Any finds on this yet?I've only found one thing. If you look in Brown's folder at the Project Abraham site (http://www.projectabraham.com/main.aspx) there's an incomplete SRPA message with a file locator #. It's a debriefing about his encounters with the Chimera in Europe. Type in "get EU9376Debrief" at the SRPA terminal to get the full message, although the good stuff is still censored out.

There's something else interesting in the folder of Capelli (the first test subject that went into a coma). It's a message from a Dr. Fyodor Malikov about transfering Capelli to something called Base Station Genesis located in Bryce Canyon.

Seems the video game industry is following the movie industry by a few months on this marketing plan... For the 6 months leading up to the release of The Dark Knight, I was getting recorded phone calls from Harvey Dent (Phone number 000-000-0000) letting me know that Gotham City needed my help.

I guess Insomniac saw how well that marketing campaign worked out and decided to used something like it for Resistance 2.

This was exactly what happened to me last night. Sadly it was while I was playing Starcraft, so I missed the call. My wife let the machine get it, then hung up because she was getting freaked, erased the message, battened down the hatches and then tracked me down to ask where the bat was. :eek:

I haven't really been following Resistance 2 at all until now - maybe I should go buy Resistance and play through it. It looks pretty badass.

Resistance was good for the time it came out, and the multi-player could still be fun today, but by today's standards it isn't anything special. I'm still going to rebuy it as a part of the Greatest Hits collection.

Actually Resistance had some pretty epic boss fights that would still be fun today for a new player IMHO, especially with one the most unique array of weapons in a FPS. The graphics won't be too impressive of course, but if you go in with the right mind frame on that, it can be a really enjoyable title. Plus, it's only $30 now :).

LOL I remember getting creeped out too. Also I forget which enemy it was but you could hear the "growl" but not see them it used to make the hair on the back of my neck stand up and I would get goose bumps. I loved it :D

Loved the lengthy campaign (aside from the slow start), tons of variety in level designs that rocked. I can't wait for the Resistance 2's campaign, that and Killzone 2 have me more excited than any other FPS coming out. I'd say Far Cry 2 but I'm really skeptical based on the last console versions sucking complete ass (unlike the PC version).

I'm not super big on the MP of Resistance as it was just too fast paced for my tastes, though I was into it for a bit. I would have played longer if it were a bit slower paced running around. I prefer Halo 3's (well Halo:CE the most) pacing for online multiplayer FPS, though not a fan of Halo campaigns. I tried COD4 a bit online as well, it was alright, same with it's campaign it was ok. Warhawk's online is superb, but not a FPS.

I'm curious about Bad Company as the demo's campaign was pretty fun. I'll be renting it eventually.

I thought the first Resistance was awesome. The story was good, and together with the environments, enemies, guns, sound, and physics(boxes and cover breaking apart, enemies flying-that was great) it sucked me in. I think graphics were good, not up to par with present games, but still pq and sq were great and contributed to the game's attraction.

The online was good, especially with all of the features it had. It got old after a few months, but that was all we had to play for a while. At least the party system worked, the online was lag free, and we constantly got updates.

I plan on playing through the campaign again before R2, for both a refresher on the story and to experience the 7.1 audio for the first time. As I did not have a 7.1 surround setup in my theater the last time I played through the campaign.

From this statement I'd gather that the open public beta will occur sometime in late September or mid to late October...correct?

That's roughly a mouth before R2 hit's the streets...well that time table seems right but I'm not holding my breath on getting in on this beta. I was just curious...so who did get invites to this "private" beta...industry folks, previous testers, media??

I just want to take the time out to let everyone who was allowed into the private beta, know that it is in fact a "PRIVATE BETA" which means you are not allowed to talk about the beta, or leak information outside of the beta to anyone who isnt apart of it. Insomniacs Infected will be checking multiple boards across the internet looking for anyone who breaks the NDA. If we catch you leaking information we will report you to IG directly and opt for you to be banned from the beta permantely.

For those of you wondering and speculating how some got in and how others didnt get in. First off being an annual subscriber to Qore will get you in early to September beta, ATM the list that we were shown on how people got in, Qore had nothing to do with it.

If you already participate in the Home beta that also had nothing to do with it, and sorry to say but not all GAP members were accepted either.

The Infected of MyResistance.net were granted access, as were top members of both official PS forums and MyRes were selected. Then others were just randomly selected.

If you Main account on your PS3 had an invalid email address, has the age under 18, or doesnt allow you to receive information and flyers from Sony then you were delisted.

So for future references, if you want to get selected into Sony betas make sure your over 18, you have those squares check marked, and that you have a valid email address on your main account. Otherwise you will continue to miss out on beta invites.

Do you guys think that if you preorder the game from the preoredr link on the beta.myresistance.com website it will automatically qualify you for the open beta? or do you think the open beta will be run like others where you get a coupon/voucher from say Gamestop and then enter in a code.

How do these calls come up on Caller ID?

I have been getting calls on my cell phone from 000-000-0000 but i don;t answer calls from weird numbers, but I bet those are the project abraham calls. I didn't miss out on the beta or any other info by not answerting the calls though did i?

I got my call really early today, some time in the afternoon.

Their calls show up as 000-000-0000. That's really creepy. How do I get my calls to say they come from that number? :p

Yes, not sure. Apparently everyone on myresistance.net is in the private beta.

No. I emailed James Stevenson from IG last week and asked him where to pre-order in Canada in order to get the public beta. He told me to wait, there would be an announcement soon. I guess the announcement is the private beta.

According to the beta website, they then removed some folks from the 1rst wave. They said don't worry if you got removed, your in, it just will be in the weeks upcoming not right away.

I logged back on to my account at the myresitance. Member 3/07 and 0 posts, 4 minutes logged, status - recruit. Yeah, not a chance in hell for me. But I don't care. Playing the game on launch for the first time will be a blast.

Eurogamer has an exclusive new video. No gameplay or anything. It's basically an animated version of the Resistance time line. Pretty cool.

I mean I think most that read it didn't care what view she has on politics, 99% of it was the humor in her impression of the calls for the game as a call from a cult or the government. One game that's going to need some sort of cover for its release later this year is Resistance 2. Or, more specifically, the Collector's Edition of the game. The problem is that Insomniac has narrowed the choice down to three potential covers, but the studio can't seem to make up its mind. So they're turning to you.

Here's what Ted Price, president and CEO of Insomniac Games, has to say about the conundrum:

"Insomniac takes community feedback seriously. We interview our fans on the Full Moon Show podcast. We created an R&D website serving aspiring game developers. And we hang out on the forums until the wee hours. We've even polled fans to select which hapless animal enemies turn into when firing the Morph-O-Ray in Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (sorry, penguin-lovers).

"Now, we turn to the community with an even bigger question: Which image do you want to see on your Resistance 2 Collector's Edition cover? While you may think developing the game is our biggest challenge at Insomniac, we agonize almost equally over important details like creating and choosing the box art. And this time, we've got three solid images that are making the decision especially difficult. We're torn, and want to know what you think. So vote! We'll be eagerly awaiting your feedback, as always."

I like #1 also. While #3 is good I dont like the upside down part. I understand the point of it just dont like it.

Insomniac Games' Ryan Schneider walked us through an extremely informative PowerPoint presentation on the developer's next game Resistance 2 at the Leipzig Games Convention. While we had foreknowledge of the majority of what Mr. Schneider talked about at the Con -- 60-person multiplayer, 8-player coop, Resistance 2's campaign storyline and its focus on bigger, badder battles -- he also touched on some of the first-person shooter's finer details. A deep-dive, if we're going for hip PowerPoint lingo.

Most interesting was the new Berserk features that Insomniac will be integrating into multiplayer. If you've played Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the new system is similar to that game's "Perks" feature.

Insomniac is ensuring that your progression through Resistance 2, whether it be in competitive multiplayer or coop, will provide constant reward. You'll be racking up experience points for just about everything you do in game. Fire a bullet, get some XP. Kill an opponent get some XP. Get enough in a round of multiplayer and you'll be able to initiate one of your Berserks.

These special attributes include things like invisibility, the ability to see through walls or a defensive aura that looks somewhat like the bubble shield from Halo 3 on a team-based scale. Schneider showed all these Berserks in action, giving us over the top examples of each being used.

In one, we watched a pre-taped attack on a group of human soldiers, each of whom had a Chimeran enemy sneak up behind them, then eliminate them while cloaked in a Predator-like invisibility shield. In another, we saw team member take advantage of the X-ray vision, firing sticky bomb rounds via the Magnum's secondary fire and blowing up his opponent without ever having actually seen him in person. Pretty snazzy.

The XP feed will also bring with in non-playable perks, as Insomniac is planning to bring over 160 medals, Trophies and ribbons to players of Resistance 2, maximizing bragging rights.

Finally, Schneider showed us R2's newest weapon reveal, the Splicer. Similar in style to a gun we saw in Dead Space, it uses a guided buzzsaw to rip enemies apart. Its primary firing mode delivers ricocheting saw blades, but its alt-fire gives one maximum goring potential, as the hovering blade can be moved around a body for extreme gibbage.

We're definitely looking forward to trying all this stuff out for ourselves, hopefully when that private Resistance 2 beta goes public and an entry key magically shows up in our inbox. It's to the left of every page on Kotaku, my good Insomniac friends, in case you lost the e-mail.
