hello,everybody! As we konw,the vw60 (100V) can be used in 220 volt areas before March 25, 2008. But now,Sony changed its voltage only to 100-120 volt in local area;
My friend found the new hardware is as same as old version after he checked it; so ,we think sony has set a lock in bios;
who can unlock it or flash the old firmware to the new one?

hi,Tryg, we tried it to 220v, but it failed;
the led winked three times in red and out , go round and round.

Hi there,

maybe F-BOARD diagrams incl. parts list will help !?!?

Find attached pdf documents from VPL-VW60 Service Manual incl. instruction on how to set VW60 device into Service Mode.

It could be possible to unlock the voltage limit somewhere inside the Service Mode settings, though I am not a VW60 owner, I am not sure, just try yourself.

For flashing firmware, a RS-232C cross link cable, flashing software (Application name: Main Flash upgrader Ver1.04), and of course a suitable firmware file: qh4vxxxx.dil (where xxxx stands for software version) is necessary.

To upgrade the scan converter software, the Pixelworks ImageProcessor SDK (SDK= Software Development Kit) is necessary (incl. suitable pwOpxxxx.inf file).

The VPL-VW60 uses an image processor IC from Pixelworks: pixelworks.com

hope this helps...

hi,HPS_01! at first ,THANK U VERY MUCH!
According to your suggestion,my friend had tried to find out the option about voltage but nothing be found in the Service menu;

There is a message form ********** web site several days ago,it is :
---------------------------------
Sony VPL-VW60 ( refurbishiment )
Only 2 pcs is available.
This is a once-repaired projected, due to voltage difference.

There is a protection circuit to stop projector working if 220/240 volt is provided.
This projector once stopped working by protection circuit when 220/240 volt is shortly connected ,
and it is refurbishied at SONY factory by deactivating its protection circuit tentatively.

Actual usage hours is 1 hour or less.
It cannot be used in 220 volt areas, without voltage transformer.
( Its voltage protection circuit is re-activated.)
------------------------------------
as I know, there are two vw60 which had been locked and sent back to sony-japan
from China mainland.

at last, would you mind to tell me where can download the firmware files from?

As far as I know, Sony does not provide projector firmware files for public download !!

Usually for a firmware update you have to send your device to an authorized Sony dealer (costly).

I would buy a voltage transformer with enough power...........

Hi howardpam,

I heard that this voltage limit of Sony VW60 can be overcomed by some modification. However, I don't know what is modified or replaced.
