hey everyone, just purchased my first plasma!! i got the hitachi directors series 55hdx62, i know it is the 05 model but the price was just too good to pass on at just over $1000 with shipping and tax included!! i have searched these forums for info on this model and have gotten a little bit of useful info but need some additional comments/help. I did not get the swivel stand with it, so i need a decent/cheap wall mount and will probably get one from amazon but need a suggestion on something that will work well for this tv. Also, i know about the flicker issue with these sets, is there something i can do to solve this problem before it happens? last thing, how is this set overall? i have comcast w/digital and HD and am just soooo excited to get this thing hooked up! thanks for the comments in advance!!!

No experience with this particular model, but I have the '06 55HDX99 Director's Series and absolutely love it. I have read some very favourable reviews of the TV you own and its predecessor, the HDX61. Very natural, smooth picture with excellent colour accuracy once calibrated. I would take advantage of the huge number of picture adjustments and at least do a calibration with a calibration DVD, or better yet, have an ISF technician do it. The guy who calibrated my TV absolutely loved it, because there are a lot of individual adjustments that you would not be able to set with a calibration DVD alone. Hitachis tend to be a bit green out of the box, so I have dialed back the "green cutoff" setting in the Colour Temperature menu. I also find that the "Standard" setting is a bit green, so I use "Medium". This is a TV that was designed to be ISF calibrated, so why not use the money (and then some) that you saved to get it calibrated? The "Night" picture setting is decent out of the box, but it will still benefit from calibration.

Good deal on a good set. Enjoy!

With a 55 inch I recommend a sturdy wall mount. Not like some you will find in the store. The good ones are pretty heavy. But thats a great tv, I think you will enjoy it.
