Why do some games need a whole bunch of hard drive space and others don't?

Why does the disc version of GT5P take up over 4 gigs of space but in the playstation store when you download it, it says you only need 1.6 gigs of space?

dunno. i think hard drive loads are to save loading time. so for GTA IV there is 3.5 gigs of stuff loaded onto the ps3 hard drive and so everytime there is a loading sequence in game, a few seconds are shaved off compared to the xbox 360. Some people don't care about seconds, but some people like it being that much quicker.

if you don't want games to have hard drive loads.....you should get a 360. And the difference between games is well because....their different games.

The disc version probably dumps the pre rendered video to HDD which isn;t included in the onlien version.

i'm sure the psn version is compressed. it's 1.9 on the store but how large after being installed?
