I just wanted to point folks here towards another company that does custom home theater intros. From reading this board, it seems people know about Custom Intros (Bitstream) (http://www.customintros.com/), and maybe Cinemawise (http://www.cinemawise.com/).

But now we have Digital Forge (http://www.digitalforge.com/store_show_trailers.php) who is making 1080P MPEG2 versions of their trailers available by special request.

A few years back, I bought their DVD versions of three of their trailers, and liked them all. Great multichannel audio/sound and appropriate imagery/story for a pre-movie trailer.

The reason I say "by special request" above is two fold. One is that they are in the process of re-creating their trailers for more visual impact when shown in HD. This goes beyond just re-rendering at higher resolution. They are adding more high resolution visuals and details into the trailers so that they will truly look impressive. But they aren't done that process yet and won't get there with all their trailers until sometime in 2009. But if like me you are desperate, they can do a high resolution rendering on what they have now and sell it to you.

The other problem is that they can only deliver the HD MPEG2 + sound as data files on a DVD. Only useful for those with HTPCs (and Kaleidescapes).

Oh, and they cost more than the competition.

But since I haven't seen their name here mentioned, thought I'd make people aware.

If someone decides to purchase from Digital Forge, there are online dealers that sell the same trailers cheaper.

Last week I found $100 gift certificate in HTMarket's latest contest and used it to buy the Digital Forge Awards Night custom intro. I'll let you know how it is after it arrives.

Got the Awards Night custom intro last night. The actual intro is great. Sharp graphics, good sound. The DVD itself, not so much.

There's an included trivia slide show, but each slide stays up for a long time (maybe 30 sec) and has its own musical interlude. So the music stops, the slide fades out, a new slide fades in, and new music starts all over again. For me, I prefer continuous background music while the slides flip every 8 - 10 seconds. I made my own slide show with the coke slides created by Stephen Good on this forum. So I won't be using the digital forge slide show.

Also on the disc are various trailers for Dolby Digital and DTS. Very cool, but you can dig these up for free elsewhere.

So I'll be rippping the intro to incorporate into my own custom introduction DVD. Bottom line, is it worth the full price? Not a chance. I'm glad I used the gift certificate.

The first time viewers of my Digital Forge are really impressed. It does the Q&A about movies for about 15 minutes then starts the intro that the movie will be starting soon. It ends with the "Zientara Home Theater" on the screen for about 15 seconds. Really clever. It's several years old, but the video and 5.1 audio are amazing.
