Although front projection doesn't really need a "break-in" period or "burn-in", you will notice the brightness settle in after about 100 to 250 hours of use.

On my old SONY VPL-W400 the bulb was very bright until 80..100 hours then it looses its brightness to a normal value. I would say 100 hrs is a typical value.

Agreed, I've noticed roughly 100 hours for things to settle down. You might also notice that the color shifts somewhat during this time.

I've heard Projector People gives you 4 hours. ;)

Maybe he's talking about the effect of the reduced brightness? I.e. the colors look a little washed out?

When the lamp has a more stabalized output [i.e. settled] the lamps color will be closer to it's nominal value. If a lamp has a color output that is too cool or too warm it will effect the color on the screen.
