I used CNET's settings.
Which would be what?
Would it make sense to buy a calibrate dvd? If so any recommendations?

It would make more sense.
Avia or DVE would be the best choices. If you have the money, go for a ISF calibrator.

I am not too sure, you have to ask someone else about that one.
Maverick1 12-21-08, 06:59 PM Well I went out and bought a Sharp LC-42SB45U on sale for $699.99 and am very disappointed, when I compare it to my Panasonic plasma TV. When watching football and even music videos I noticed all kinds of artifacts that I never get with my plasma....very distracting. How do people put up with this???
I have read that LCD's are not great for watching fast moving scenes but this is ridiculous. I got a lot of motion blur from the LCD. I am using component cables because my TW pvr does not have an HDMI output. Will using an HDMI cable cure this problem?
I much prefer the picture from my plasma which is only an EDTV and it still puts out a better picture than this full 1080P Sharp.
I think I will check out the Vizio plasma and see how it looks.
There is also another 32" plasma on the market made by Insignia. Has anyone seen one of these?
cheers
Instead of me going thru the instruction booklet ..does our TV (32" Vizio Plasma) support HDMI 1.3?
Chief Ediri 12-22-08, 10:58 PM Instead of me going thru the instruction booklet ..does our TV (32" Vizio Plasma) support HDMI 1.3?
Yes, I have a PS3 going through HDMI 1.3
kandied91z 12-23-08, 12:00 AM i just picked up mine tonight through walmart. $437 out the door.
i bought it mainly as i had my eye on the comparable 32" lcd for a few days and had been sleeping on it. went in to buy it tonight a few days before christmas... i know and the lcd's were all gone.
needing a gift and understanding the walmart return policy i bought it without hesitation. i own a 42" top model panasonic plasma and have been happy with it. back when i bought the 42" lcd versions where another 50% more in cost so i was excited to find a lcd 32" in the $400 range.
short point to the story i ended up picking up the plasma because it was all that was available. while it was $20 less then the lcd version according to all of my research and after reading alot of non sense posts here it looks like it was the best choice. i plan to keep the unit and use it for my full return period. if i return it i'll be back to share.
nice site here!
Okay..I'm a little lost trying to find a medium sized HDMI 1.3 cord on Monoprice.com any help?
Okay..I'm a little lost trying to find a medium sized HDMI 1.3 cord on Monoprice.com any help?
Define medium? I ordered a 6 footer and had it in a few days for like 8 bucks shipped?
Shawn
I guess a 6 foot one would be fine, what is this about hdmi 1.3a?
How about these? http://firefold.com/HDMI-Male-to-HDMI-Male-Digital-Cable-1-Foot-28AWG-Black-P3568C485.aspx
n/m just ordered from firefold
I just checked monoprice. Not sure where you're looking but I found 1ft, 2ft, 3ft, 6ft, 10ft, 12ft, 15ft, 25ft, 30ft, etc... Pick your poison!
porphyrous 12-26-08, 11:52 AM Wow. All I can say is, wow. This TV is grandtastic. I was hoping to find a plasma TV in this price range, because LCDs give me a headache from the motion smear.
I plugged in the settings from the previous page, and it really improved things a bunch. Even our Wii, which is only 480p, cleaned up nicely. Setting the sharpness to 0 eliminated most of the jaggies. I had noticed when playing de Blob (that game centers on mixing colors) that the blue levels were off, but after plugging in the settings here, it looks like it should. Playing Super Mario Galaxy (generally regarded as the finest graphics work on the Wii) set me back on my butt it looked so good. I was amazed.
The whole thing cost about $500 ($437 plus tax plus a Philips component cable for Wii), which is about what I aimed for. Color me satisfied. :-)

Did Walmart just stop selling the 32" Vizio Plasma? I don't see it on their website:

It may have been discontinued. I think some Costco stores have already stopped carrying it. And there is a new 32" Vizio LCD on Wal-Mart's site, so maybe some of the 2008 TVs are already disappearing. But this TV is still available in many Wal-Mart stores, at least for now.

Thanks!
It works great with video games, aside from the IR having to run image cleaner after a match of Call of Duty World at War online. But, it's no big deal, I'm still keeping my eye open on sales for different Plasmas and what is shown at CES. Since Wal-Mart gives you 30 days to return products....

S1lentTwo 12-29-08, 06:14 AM Wal Mart is selling this TV for $437 right now, $40 more than the Vizio LCD of the same size. I was originally planning on getting the LCD, but now I'm wondering if I should get the Plasma instead. Anybody know how this TV's PQ compares with that of the 32" Vizio LCD Wal Mart is selling (model #VW32LHDTV40A)? Is it worth the extra $40? I'm a bit wary of burn in, and whichever TV I purchase I plan to use for a number of years, so I don't want it to crap out on me. Also the Cnet review of the plasma is kind of discouraging...
I work part time at Wal Mart (college student) so I get a discount, and I have some gift cards, so that's why I'm only really looking to buy a TV from WM...

Burn-in is very hard to get on most newer plasmas. In the first 100 hours, just be a little more careful and try to watch as much full screen content as possible. That is the break in time for plasmas. You may notice IR (image retention) with this tv if you are watching content with static images for an extended period of time, but after watching a bit of some full screen content or using the white wash cleaner this tv has, it will clear right up. It really isn't a big deal though and you might not even notice the IR. Also, IR should become less noticeable (if you even notice it) after the first 100 hours.
The picture quality on this tv is superior to the 32" Vizio LCD, although that is a nice tv too, but if you want a nicer overall pq and don't want to deal with the motion blur that plagues a lot of LCDs, get the plasma.
Vizio has a 1 year manufacturers warranty and you can also purchase extended service plans from them, but I wouldn't worry too much about it crapping out on you.
Kevin, how are the blacks on your tv? It seems like in those pictures you have pure black? Is it your camera that's doing that?
Picked up the 32" plasma last night, Picture was Amazing out of the box to say the least, scanning the ota channels from my new Channel master 4228HD resulted in both sd & hd receiption with Very good quality picture, get the same picture quality from SD D*** N****** satelite reciever that will be turned off soon. :)
Note: IF this TV last 5 years or more i will be extremely satisfied.
Returned a Sanyo 42" 1080p 42848 LCD because or horible picture that included Motion Sickness and bad ota SD/HD recieption.
slyguy10 12-29-08, 02:11 PM I just wanted to add another thing about this set. It does SD really well. I have 3 other set's all are LCD, this set kills them in the SD department
KEVIN 45 12-29-08, 02:36 PM Kevin, how are the blacks on your tv? It seems like in those pictures you have pure black? Is it your camera that's doing that?
I wish it was pure black like that, it's just the camera making it look darker. :(
It's pretty much equal to LCD black levels in this range, except it's all on equal level of black, don't have to to worry about backlight bleeding, or in some cases, I find the backlight making the blacks get a blue tint.
I'm still keeping my eyes peeled, maybe Vizio will announce a new 2009 model plasma at CES with better blacks. I wish Pio or Panny would announce one, I doubt it though. Otherwise, I'll be sticking with this, as it's fantastic for the price.
Sorry if this has been brought up before. I tried searching but could not find sufficient information.
I have had my VP322 for about 6 months now and love it. After getting a couple of HDMI cables for Christmas, I upgraded my HD DVR from component to HDMI and wanted to try an upconvert DVD player.
So I borrowed a Philips 1080i upconvert DVD player (not sure of the model #) to see if it would make a noticible difference from progressive scan. The picture quality looked great but I couldn't get rid of the letter box (watching Kung Fu Panda in standard widescreen).
When I tried to adjust the aspect, the option was greyed out. This has not been a problem while watching satellite. My dish receiver can change the aspect directly from the remote. Soooo, is there a way to zoom an HDMI image or am I stuck with a very short, but wide image?
Thanks!

I have a Phillips upconverting DVD and it has a zoom button on the remote. That will do the trick. It actually offers the most different crops that I've seen. It offers something six or 8 different views. You'll be fine

TangoJetta 12-31-08, 09:39 AM My wife got this tv for free from a raffle 3 months ago, so far we like a lot. The one thing I did notice is picture quality range fairly wide. I notice the Walmart display models were not as clear as our and the color were pretty wash out.

Most of the ones at Walmart are not calibrated, plus the customers mess with the settings
steinfire 12-31-08, 11:21 PM I went today to get the 32" LCD for our bedroom(replacing a 13" tube) and they were out but did have one 32" Plasma left. I paid $437 for it! Hooked it up and played with the settings and it looks great.
I just have to mount it on the wall....does anyone know a good full motion mount for this tv? I need it to be able to pull out from the wall and tilt down.
jvgillow 01-01-09, 12:42 AM I got one of these units tonight (well 12/31... after midnight here now). Walked into Walmart at 11pm on New Year's eve and walked out 10 minutes later with a TV. No warranty or attachment hassles. It's for my 2nd room, the HT has a 720p projector.
Got up and running quickly, it found my analog & digital QAM stations over basic cable. Running 40 brightness and 30 contrast for now, doing the all-full-screen thing to prevent burn-in etc. HD stations look very nice. The speakers are meh but I already have that covered.
I am thinking about getting one of these for my bedroom, but am I going to be disappointed with 720? I have an older 50" LCD Hitachi 1080i and comparing this to my girlfriend's Phillips LCD 720, mine blows hers away in HD except hers does display SD much better. Maybe it is the make of hers but it doesn't even look like HD, just a very clear picture. We are both using the same source, (VZ Fios).
Just wondering if I should wait and get a Panny plasma. I want a plasma though.
thanks!

On a TV this small 1080p is a waste. There is no 720i, by the way.
jvgillow 01-01-09, 12:28 PM Agreed, 720p is nice and crisp even from 7 ft away when you are talking about a 32" viewable screen.

Well,
I have had this TV "up and running" since Christmas Eve. I am very impressed with this little set. I put it in a kids room and have it hooked up to a PS2 and an HD-A2 HDDVD player and for the money I don't think it can be beat. I am especially happy how it handles SD TV as that is the only option for "regular" TV in this room. The feed is coax cable from the Dish receiver in the main bedroom. If you are on the fence regarding whether or not you should get this TV jump off already and get it. I don't think you'll look back for a moment after enjoying this TV.
FWIW I was at WalMart tonight and they are still selling this set @ 437.00 but the 32" LCD was @ 397.00 where it had been about 20 bucks more expensive than the plasma. I would still have gotten the plasma over the LCD to me the plasma is well worth the 40 dollar premium.
Just so I don't sound like a fanboy there are some short comings with the set. It doesn't have the blackest blacks (but good enough for what I am using it for), the remote IMHO is CHEAP, and I would like to have more options for viewing modes other than wide, panoramic, and normal. The only other thing is if I was not using a set of computer speakers to supplement the sound I would be left wanting a little more umph in that department. Even with the TV's weaknesses I will and still plan on getting another one at some point to go in either the master bedroom or the basement when I'm ready.
Regards,
RTROSE
I have also used CNETs settings with a slight tweak of my own and I think their setting are pretty much right on for this set.

Does this TV upscale to 1080i? Wondering if I should set it to that on my Xbox 360..
Also, what do you guys have your Color Space set to on the 360?

You are better off leaving it at 720p since this TV does not have a true 1080i resolution.
I can't help you with color space since I use VGA with my 360 due to it not having a HDMI port.

My guess is they are coming out with an updated spec's model fairly soon.

Yes it has a tuner. I have it set up with the TV cable coax from Charter. I get all of the analog channels, a couple of non-scrambled digitals and all of the non-scrambled HD channels they have to carry, ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and PBS.

For 8 months we have really enjoyed the picture and sound of this Set...
The other morning she pressed the button to come on.. no power...:(
We are still searching for the reciept...:(
Looking over the Internet Vizio repairs if under warranty fine....
If out of warranty, it will cost you more to repair it than replace it...
We are heart broken.. Was a great set... while it worked...
Might stick to name brand sets now... although all Products have lemons..:(
just a heads up..I think these things get hot and burn something up...:(
PGHammer 02-02-09, 04:19 PM [QUOTE=CHolleman;13826432]how did you hear that and what stores?[/QUOT
It's on Vizio' website when you click on that particular model. Right now it's only being sold at Wal-Mart at select stores but available for on line purchase. I would expect to see all the Wal-Mart stores having them on their shelves but the end of the month and into June, but yeah you can buy it on line though.
This is the sort of plasma that makes Site-to-Store (which Wal-Mart offers on all TVs) worthwhile. 32"? Name another plasma under 40" from anybody. What's scarier is that you are NOT paying any sort of premium compared to LCDs (not even their LCDs) in the same size-class.
What has been causing plasma grief in the larger sizes has nothing to do with any lack of PQ issues; there is *still* the perception (whether deserved or not) that plasma displays are more susceptible to burn-in than other display technologies, and especially LCD, combined with LCD finally being able to scale UP to the 40"+ direct-view sizes that were the "killing field" for plasma displays. (I bought my own plasma display in 2005, primarily based on both price *and* features, as no LCD display then, and very few even almost four years later, offers the same combination of features and a low price that I was able to get from my closeout-priced plasma). While I have less than ten thousand hours on the display, that does NOT mean I don't watch much TV; even more surprising, I don't watch as much HDTV as I would like. But I don't have burn-in issues, either, despite watching more SD than HD.
It's actually nice to see this sort of display bringing plasma technology back.
PGHammer 02-02-09, 04:52 PM There is really no reason to buy this set anymore, unless of course your budget completely blows. For 6-700 hundred you can have a 42" panasonic or samsung plasma, 900 can now get you a 720p 50" set. Top level brand LCD's in the 32" range are the same price, with 37-42" sets going for 6-700.
Tom, not everyone wants a 40" or larger display, especially fora non-master bedroom or non-bedroom (except media room) usage. (I didn't plan on having 42" worth of plasma for my own bedroom, though that's exactly what's in there.) Also, more often than not, if you're upgrading a bedroom TV (typically a table model in the 20"-27" range), you're looking at 30"-37", and by *necessity*, you're going to be looking at LCD, because, until this model shipped, you didn't find plasma in this size at all.
If you want to remain in this screen size (and most users definitely do, because of where the TV is going), the Vizio plasma is the only real alternative to LCD.
walkoflea 02-11-09, 04:16 PM Better buy them while you can.

jvgillow 02-11-09, 04:20 PM I pretty much suspected that was coming. Look at the AVS front page today, there's an article on there about whether plasma is a dying breed.
pannyplas 02-17-09, 01:47 PM Hey, what do you guys use for settings on the Xbox 360?
Special Ed 02-23-09, 02:31 PM Good TV for the money. Black levels are not that great, but plenty of inputs, good tuner, and no artifacts.
Bought mine at Costco, so it came with a two year warranty.
I hope it lasts as long as my old mitsubishi,20 years
andrew361 03-08-09, 12:07 PM Hello. I picked up one of these TVs a little over a week ago. This site has been an excellent resource for research over the past few months. Thanks. Anyway, I have a question regarding IR on these sets. I've been running the break-in DVD whenever I'm not around and have over 100 hours on the set by now. It seems that IR is slightly worse now than when the set was new. Last night I could clearly see the input selection box (upper right corner) and read "Component" from across the room. It went away after a few seconds of video, but the initial IR seems to be a lot more vivid than before. Is this typical for these sets, or should I be thinking of exchanging it? I'm not afraid of burn in at all, but I do want to make sure this particular set is working the way it should. Thanks in advance.
Andrew
Hi. I've had my Vizio since before Xmas and I'm pleased with the purchase. But a couple of questions for you folks. Firstly, how do you find the quality (strength) of the digital tuner compared to other tuners found in televisions, STBs, DVD recorders, etc? Secondly, I want to get a DVD player for my Vizio. Do you guys recommend complete with an HDMI port and upconvert, or would a basic unit with a component cable port be good enough (..and allow the Vizio to do the upconvert)?
Thanks.

pannyplas 03-10-09, 10:04 PM Alright. I know plasmas run hot, but damn I just put my hand on the back of my Vizio and damn was that hot, felt like I could burn myself.
tomscave 03-11-09, 09:07 PM Just picked up the last one in the Tampa area for a killer price at my local Walmart. It was the display model and I've been looking at it for the last few days there. I played around with it at the store and everything worked perfectly. When I got it home, it wouldn't power up. Called Vizio and they're scheduling a service call.
Illiterature 03-12-09, 04:56 AM I am thinking of grabbing one of these before they go out of stock. Has anyone used this with a HTPC?
also, how is wal-mart's return policy with tv...is it the standard 3 months?

Repair guy put in a new power supply and all is well. He said he's done a few of these and it's always the power supply.
jfly1975 04-10-09, 01:06 PM This is the response to an email I sent inquiring about the 32 in. plasma not being available for sale anywhere. And I really wanted one. I wonder why they stopped making them if they seemed to sell so well. I guess plasmas really are disappearing.
"We apologize for the inconvenience, this model is no longer in
production and there are no plans to release it again."
Thank you,

You are right, they aren't disappearing.
KEVIN 45 04-22-09, 07:12 PM Anybody else notice with this TV that if you chose 1080i or 1080p that it cuts off some of the image? Is this supposed to happen?
ministerjee 04-24-09, 12:22 AM can anybody tell me how good VP322 displays SD picture????
Grateful11 05-02-09, 11:46 PM I don't know about them being junky because our sons both have one in their dorms
at college and they run a lot and I mean a lot. So far not even the hint of a glitch.
Hi all,
I hate reviving a long dead thread, just wanted to get a few opinions. I have had this 32" plasma for about a year and a half and what is weird is that the IR seems to be getting worse with age. IR seems to almost be instantaneous and lasts for a considerable amount of time. For example, if I switch to an input with no signal the "no signal" image leaves an IR trail that will persist for several minutes. This gets annoying if you are watching anything with a black background screen. Also, I haven't been able to play games on this TV due to the bad IR. I have also experienced some long term IR on the screen due to the misses watching SD channels without the gray sidebars. Now to my question. I have the extended warranty on the TV and wonder if this is something that may be covered under warranty. Has anyone ever called and had something like this covered? Also, please understand that this has not tainted my view of plasma TVs, as I have just replaced my living room LCD with a G10 panny plasma.
cesslinger 12-28-09, 06:18 PM Dude, you are talking about a sub $500.00 plasma TV.
That is how it rolls. Mine has IR, but it never stays.
Get into the habit of turning on the screen cleaner when a commercial is on or breaks.
I have one in my room for Xbox and movies. Do I see IR? Everyday. Is it as bad as when the tv was new? I can't tell the difference but I make a conscience effort to reduce it for my own viewing pleasure.
One thing is for certain, you probably could get the set replaced under the extended warranty if you are slick with words.
