FINALLY started construction today. I'm taking the lessons learned from the GREAT members of this site and incorporating as many of the tips as possible into our HT. Now, I need to finally settle on a sub $3,000 projector. HELP!

Here are the room specs: 18' X 15'. Ceiling will be 7' 8". The room will be dark as it is in our basement. I am building DIY screen using the highly recommended Goo. I'm thinking the screen should be in the 90-100 inch range.

What do you guys suggest for the projector? I'm leaning toward the Epson 1080UB or the BenQ W5000. However, I am basically clueless. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Might want to check out Silver Fire, it's quite a bit cheaper than Goo ;)

Take look at the Optoma HD80, too.

Take look at the Optoma HD80, too.

With a 7'-8" ceiling, if he ceiling mounts tight to the ceiling and wants a 106" image then his 2" screen border will only be about 14" to 15" off of the floor. He could use keystone to raise the image, but with the other two that he listed he would not have to do that. I would stick with the Epson and Benq before I went with the Optoma. For a dedicated room the Benq would be an excellent choice.

I assume that the front to back of your room is 18 feet and the 15 foot measurement is the width. If the room is only 15 feet deep then the Epson is your only choice if you want a 100" image. The Benq W5000 will not throw a 100" image in a 15 foot room. For 100" image you need 14'-7" from lens to screen. Same problem with the Optoma HD80. It needs 14'-8" from lens to screen for 100" image. Not a problem with the Epson. You can place it just about anywhere.
