I am thinking of getting a epson 1080ub and portable screen. I currently live in a townhouse, waiting on moving (1 yr or so). I am impatient and want a projector.

My question is can I have the projector 10 - 11 feet from the screen on the floor? will the image be projected correctly or do i need a roof mount with more distance. my screen will be about 90-100" or so. thanks!

if its just gonna be temporary, id put pj on shelf or tabletop. but never on floor, it could 'inhale' excess dust, etc thru air intakes.

also the projector on the floor would be subject to vibration caused by people walking around, etc. could cause some problems, in particular with the lamp, especially if it's running. personally, I'd go with an easy ceiling mount, but that depends on the offset I suppose. Worst case, a shelf would work.

my other issue is that my girlfriend thinks i am completely crazy for wanting to do this now. She wants me to wait a year or so till i move and get a house. She forbids and permanent changes to the townhouse (ex: holes in ceiling for mount). :) i just talked to her on the phone. I think shes ok with the portable screen and projector on the floor or coffee table. :) I slowly purchased the other components so i have a Dell XPS 420 with dual cable cards with all tv series and dvds on windows home server, Onkyo 705, and a PS3. :)

Now where is the best place to get the epson powerlite home 1080ub. are there any rebates?

yep, she will think you are crazy until she sees it in action! :) I still vote for the ceiling mount, its only 3 holes! (ok, maybe 4). Nothing a little spackle couldnt handle. I say, in your case, at least do a coffee table, DO NOT put it on the floor.

Not to mention the fact that most projectors are designed to be level with the bottom of the screen, or the top of the screen when ceiling mounted. So to put it on the floor would require a great deal of keystone correction which might degrade the image quality.
