Hey Everyone
I have a problem and it was recommended that I come here. I have 2002 model Samsung rear projectionTV that I bought from a friend. I have had it plugged up for 5 months with no problems. The problem happened today when I got home. The picture was very warped and blurry, almost kindof like a photoshop blur effect. There are 3 wavy Red,green, and blue lines at the very top of the screen. You can see a picture of what you are watching but it is warped and the colors are all seperated. I tried Perfect Focus but it does not get above 5% I believe, I cannot tell. I cannot tell if manual focus is working either Also of note is that normally when the TV is turned on it has a little melody to it. This melody is gone now. The tv has normal sound when on, so there is no problem there. There have been a couple of instances tonight in which the screen corrected itself for about 3 seconds. My question is: is it the convergence board? If so, would it be worth it to replace myself? If it is not what do you think the problem is? Any help would make my day better. :o DJ

I am the original owner of my 2002 Samsung. I've had absolutely no problems for the last six years. Then two days ago, bam. Same exact thing as you're describing here -- split colors, waviness, but no blurring. One instance of self adjustment, and no manual convergence efforts working... I agree. I think it might be the convergence board.
They want $100 just to come to my house to diagnose. Then there's parts and labor, etc. that could be any cost at this point. Who knows? I'd love to know if anyone can suggest something I can do myself to diagnose this or possibly even repair it.

I just put in a new convergence board, Model number BP95-00142E, as I thought the problem was with those IC things. Worked for about a day, then same thing started happening, just less frequently. Currently it is down with the wavy lines. I opened it up, dusted it out and thought it would work.

I just ordered a convergence board off partstore.com. P/N AA95-01799G. It should arrive next week some time. I will definitely let you know if it worked for me.
But now you have me worried I haven't found the problem needing to be fixed. What are you going to try next? One of the boards connected to the lamps?
Did you redo your manual convergence after you installed the new board? Maybe recheck the connections? If it worked for a day, either something else went bad, or the new board fried as well? Is your fan working? Maybe your components are getting too hot?
A friend told me he got a few more years out of his Samsung after he replaced the convergence board before other things went horribly wrong.

The convergence board that I put in got hot. I don't know if this is a normal thing that happens. It was too hot to touch once disconnected from the TV. The TV has no fan so it might be an issue with overheating.
I did redo the manual focus, as well as the perfect focus. I rechecked all the connections as well.

Okay. So I got the convergence board today... Popped it into the TV. The picture is *almost* back to normal. I can't quite seal the deal on the convergence because I can't get the perfect focus to work now. I get an error: no sensor data. The board is burning in as I type this. When I started, there was a good deal of wavering lines across the top and bottom of the screen that are gradually going away. At this point, I now have one pesky line across the top of the screen that refuses to go away.
And of course the service manual is back-ordered. :(
Any thoughts on the "no sensor data" problem???
