It is nice to have both Ralph and Dave on the same site again...
I used to hang out more on the Spot due to the reviews and knowledge of Dave, Chad, and Ralph...
But now I guess that I will spend more time around here....
Hope that Chad also comes to post to this site....

I'll post here more often as well. My reviews are over at www.ultimateavmag.com, but I don't have control on when they get posted. I have about 6 awaiting posting right now!

Dave, good to see you too (although we talk regularly) and I look forward to seeing you here more often. It will be like old times.:)

Ralph: Are you done reviewing over at HTS? That forum holds a special place in my heart because it was the first home theater forum I ever joined and used to be my primary "go to" place for home theater info, but activity seems to be drying up to almost nothing. Kinda sad, but I don't spend time there like I used to, so it'll be nice to have access to your reviews here at AVS.

Greetings,

Chad, I will no longer be reviewing at the HTS. It was nothing personal in any way but simply time for a change. I look forward to seeing you around..:)

It is too bad the Goofy short that was in theaters was not included on the disc.

Even so, I will be picking it up!:)

When my review is posted over at UAV, I brought this issue up. I was VERY disappointed in it not being included.

I agree - it is a BIG disappointment. While I found the movie enjoyable, I found the Goofy short hilarious! It was probably more of an attraction that the movie itself!

Thanks Ralph! I have watched National Treasure numerous times and it is just as much fun each time. I'm glad to hear that the sequel holds up as well.

I've just gone and pre-ordered the pair of them from Amazon.

Question about the audio codecs'
""Audio Format(s): Dolby TrueHD 5.1, English/French/Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 surround""
From the disc and you choose an Eglish audio format other than Dolby TrueHD I am now finding out after purchase that my Samsung BD-5000 has a firmware bug that does not allow downmixing to a DTS 5.1 audio for Optical 5.1 out put (DTS/Dolby)

David,

I'm not sure if I am getting what you are saying. If you choose Dolby Digital 5.1, what does the Samsung output?

David

DIGITAL DOLBY 5.1 is a different codec than DOLBY TRUE HD

The Samsung only out puts 2 channel stereo due to a firmware bug from what I am reading in other forums if a user selects the DOLBY TRUE HD audio....

If the audio track is selectable DIGITAL DOLBY 5.1 then great but...If it is hidden the Samsung will not find the audio track.

My receiver is about 18months old and does not have HDMI or codecs higher than Dolby/DTS-EX

Greetings,

The available audio formats for this disc are: Dolby TrueHD 5.1, as well as Dolby Digital 5.1 surround in English/French/Spanish. There is a comma after Dolby TrueHD 5.1. Your Samsung should have no trouble with playback of the DD 5.1 audio.

If I have misunderstood your question then please clarify.

That was the answer that I wanted to read!
That the English Dolby Digital 5.1 is selectable from the disc's audio menu, not just on the disc as part of the BluRay Specs, but is selectable!

Suggestion:
The comma could of just been used as a 'breath' mark and not a separator of functions... in the future <till the next firmware is release by Samsung [from what I have been reading the audio codec down-mix bug may effect a number of BluRay players {PS3, Phillips?} not just Samsung.]> could you list the audio codecs/formats in a column and not side by side?
Audio Format(s) Menu Selectable:

Dolby TrueHD 7.1 English
Dolby Digital 5.1 English/French/Spanish

Again THANKS for answing my many questions!!

Greetings,

Don't thank me just yet. The english Dolby Digital 5.1 menu selection is not available. This would be redundant as the intent is that any player or processor not capable of decoding the Dolby TrueHD audio would be able to decode the lossy Dolby Digital core contained in the signal. If your Samsung is down mixing it to two channel only there that is a limitation that they need to address.

My apologies for any confusion.

Ralph,

Great review! Glad I pre-ordered the set a while back. I saw NT: Book of Secrets in the theaters because I love the original. I really enjoyed the film, so I'm glad to hear the blu-ray disc is going to do it justice!

Guess folks still aren't up to speed with this new forum which was the case with me but opinions elsewhere I'm reading for the BD quality of this title also shows good marks.

Really looking forward to getting mine as I like the movie and the quality will be icing on my cake! :)

Hello everyone. I'm a new member here from Thailand. I just want to know whether or not NT1 & NT2 BD have THAI subtitle? The back cover have no information about it, but I saw menu screen in 'dvdbeaver.com' website and there is THAI soundtrack (The lowest in audio option menu).

These reviews are great. I personally didn't care for this movie... I thought the acting was quite bad on all counts. However, the BD PQ & AQ are great!!

Thanks Ralph, your review was very helpful. I now proudly own both NT 1 and 2. I am psyched to have them and have watched them both and I don't think I will ever get tired of them. Hope to see many more reviews!

Cannot really write any more than what already has been told here and other review sites. This one may not quite be reference but it is easily amongst the top BDs. If you enjoyed this movie, this is a further recommendation to purchase this BD. If you want to rent it first, local Blockbusters should have it (mine has 5 copies) or go the online rental route. I enjoyed this movie as much as the first if you are concerend about content but one's mileage may vary with regard to that.

watched it yesterday and i agree the pq and the aq is one of the best i have seen so far. the only thing was i had a lot of audio drops throuhout the movie. this is the first bluray that has done this i have watches a lot of them. i rented from bb and i am using an onkyo 605 seems strange.

Watched this movie last night and was very impressed with the PQ. The colors were amazing on my 1080p projector. They really popped. I thought the movie was not quite as good as the first one (story) but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Another top notch transfer from Disney.

Just finished Treasure 1, will watch 2 this week-end, I can't brag up the audio with a sound bar but PQ was great and even with just optical soundbar and woofer there was good sound. I put this in thread 1 and 2, well worth the money.

I must be missing something because most of these don't actually appear to have any review at all.

I checked the archives thread and that just links here. What am I missing?

I enjoyed the other reviews and would like to see these as well hahaa

Ahh ok, makes sense. Unfortunate that you don't actually have any rights to your own work in this day and age.
I look forward to new reviews.

It's actually debatable whether Ralph could post them here or not from a legal standpoint. If he wasn't paid or didn't sign away his rights to HIS work, then he could post it anywhere that he wants, but he can't request it to be taken down on the other site because they own the right to display it as well (at least that is my understanding of the law).

Well, I do hope Ralph starts posting his reviews here exclusively now, so long that it is equally beneficial to him.

I have read many HDM reviews from different people on different sites around the web.

Ralph is definitely the first reviewer who I have yet to find any personal disagreement with on the PQ/AQ (or, so far, even the actual content for that matter:)).

Great job.

Yesterday I had the chance on watching this one. In terms of the video, I agree with you Ralph... However, in terms of the sound is not bad, but I wouldn't consider it demo material..Dialogue is crisp, and the music sounds good. But I guess that the sound design is not that great... The MR scene is great!

While the PQ and the audio were pretty good, I was disappointed in this film. Typical formula sequel, re-serve the same dish, with a slightly different version of the story. I loved the first movie, but this one was wayyy too predictable for me. Worth a rental fee though if you like this kind of story, just don't expect to be blown away.
