I need some advice on how many cables to run between my display and AV receiver for future-proofing.
I just bought a Yamaha RX-V663 receiver with 2 HDMI and 3 component inputs. I'm planning to buy a Pioneer 5010 Plasma with 4 HDMI and 2 component inputs.
The plasma will be mounted about 6 feet away from the receiver over a stone fireplace. I'm having an installer do the work and I'm assuming once the TV is in, it won't move for a number of years unless I have some major issue.
The devices I currently have are a DVD Player, Xbox 360, and HD DVR.
I envision switching out the DVD player for Blu-ray and adding some kind of appleTV/Netflix set top box in the future. Maybe even an HTPC and a Wii one day.
How many cables should I run from my TV to receiver? Obviously a switcher is always an option, but with the number of inputs on my TV, it seems unlikely to be needed.
There are older threads on this, but of course with the number of devices changing every year, I'm looking for the most recent advice.
