OK, this is what I require:
1. Resume a movie from where it left off, even *after the player has been turned off*
2. Fast tray opening
3. Good picture quality
4. Less than $80
What I really would like to have:
1. HDMI connection
Nice to have:
1. Upconverting capabilities
Any advice? Thanks.

Best $$$ I ever spent! The Oppo 980H is a great investment if you watch a lot of SD DVD.

To the original post. What display are you using with it?
The Sony DVP-NS700H is a very good player dvd player for under $80.
