I need night vision quick and easy.

I found the Sima SL-20IR Night vision Video Light adapter at http://www.amazon.com/Sima-SL-20IR-Night-vision-Video/dp/B000V04RQM

It says "Shoe mount compatible with all Pro & consumer video camcorders"

Will it work with an old sony v8 handycam ccd-fx330?

Sima's lights come with an adapter that hooks up to the bottom of your camcorder (where you would connect your tripod). The knob of the adapter also has a hole, so you could theorically connect it to a tripod too. You won't need to use it if you have a normal shoe mount on your camcorder. Finally, if you don't like the idea of using their adapter and own a Sony camcorder with AIS, you could purchase an AIS to standard shoe adapter (available at B&H) which would let you put the Sima light at the top using the AIS shoe mount.

Not sure what you mean. Does your camcorder support Nightshot mode? The night light is an infrared light. If you're camcorder doesn't support nightshot mode, the light will be useless. If it does, it should work fine when the camcorder is put in that mode. Note that I don't own that particular light, but I own another Sima model (normal light), which is why I answered your first question about the universal adapter.

that's exactly what i'm asking.

it appears to only have a back light selection

I think you're out of luck using that camcorder for night vision then.
