Scenario .. A gentleman in my town has a theater with three screens and a media room with a overhead video projector. He wants to install a camera in one of the theaters so he can reproduce the movie in the media room and serve food. We have tried a Sony HD Z1 camcorder .. perhaps a bit over kill . So the question is.... What is the best camera for this ? It has to have component outputs and wireless remote (iris and focus) . Clearly quality is of concern as well . We have thought about a Panasonic AG HVX200 USA model as well
Thanks for any help

Sorry, but isn't that illegal? Sounds like he's trying to make a copy that he shouldn't be doing.

It probably wouldn't be illegal if he is using the camera simply as a signal capture device to send the signal to the media center without doing any recording, but in that case I wouldn't use a camera-- a camera capture from a screen is too washed out. Instead, run a cable or cables from the playback device directly to the media room projector.

If he doesn't want the shows at the same time in the theaters and media room, then playback from the media room.

By the way, I'm using regular RG6 coax cables (some may be quad shield) for 100-ft component connections. For permanent installation, I'll use RG-6/U Quad Shield from mcmelectronics.com.

Sorry I should have been more specific . Yes in fact it would be illegal to copy the material . A issue we have no desire to become involved with . I did speak with Canon and they do not have or know of a camera that is simply a camera ( for this use),the only option is a camcorder . As to getting the material direct from the source .. it’s 35mm film so it has to be converted to 1080 video, another reason for component outputs (HD 1080). We would go direct from the camera to the video projector . We also check out a video tap but they are only available for camera’s , not projectors. The biggest issue is the color wash and contrast bloom. The Sony Z1 did give a good reproduction ..slight saturation in the contrast or the dark / bright scenes .. the dark area was just plain black.. no definition. But we didn’t spend a lot of time with the custom settings . The Panasonic hvx 200 seems to be a slightly better camera with the amenities we are looking for . Not being a expert or really very knowledgeable about pro cameras . I wanted some expert opinions . These camera’s go for 4500 to 6000 . We don’t want to make a mistake .
Thanks for you opinions
