Downloadable Music Video Store on Xbox Live:

I've had Xbox LIve from day 1 and they started out with music videos at a slow but steady clip. When it started out the Music Videos were usually High Defintion a 720p.

I even met one of the people from a company involved with the program early on at an E3 2 years ago. For whatever reason the program stalled and the flow of music videos came to a crawl.

Now a new music video store has opened up which looks well organized and has music videos for $2 a pop. The big missing factor is, Videos are all Standard Definition. The look decent but NO high definiton. I still have some of the early high definition 720p and the difference is quite apparent.

Too bad. In fact is there anywhere that offers Music Videos in High Definition, outside of MTV HD channel which is broadcast, no on demand?

So I've settled for the SD version on some of these, that despite the fact that I have access to lots of SD music videos over "Music Choice" on FiOS at no additional charge.

The SD quality is good, still a long way from the HD versions they had early in the service though :( The combination of price ($2) and convenience of having the videos ready in an instant on the 360 harddrive makes owning a few irresistable.

Wonder if I'll have to wait for Sony's PS3 service to develop to get HD music videos?

I have Xbox Live in Canada and we get no music videos period. I think to grow the music video part, they might want to look to partnering with Zune, Creative products, etc. so it has the same usefulness as iTunes' music videos. But that's just my two cents.

Given that MS is Zune that would seem to be a natural fit. Be nice to order a music video and be able to get a copy for both Zune and Xbox for instance.

Lately however MS seems to have poor synergy between it's seperate divisions when comes time marshall it's resources for joint benefit. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for great use of Zune/360 combination. MS divisions are more like seperate companies. Sony on the other hand seems to have rallied it's forces together thanks to the blu-ray effort and clearly the PS3/PSP connection is strongly emphasized.

Well as amir was explaining it in the HDM forums, it's basically every group trying to promote its own interest - to the point of collaborating with another group's competitor. So I'm not surprised there is poor synergy. But they definitely have the pieces to put it together. It's just a matter of whether they want to hook it up and whether they put enough marketing muscle behind it.
