Hi All,
(I"ve posted this same post in another area of the forums as I'm not sure where it belongs)
This is my first day here at AVS Forum and my first post, so please be nice! ;)
I've been watching the same 27" CRT TV for almost 20 years and am pleased with its image quality. With digital conversion coming in less than a year, I've recently begun to consider the purchase of an LCD TV, probably something in the 37"-42" range.
My concern is that the image quality of every set I've viewed (at Costco, BB, CC) has been less than satisfactory IMO. All the sets look fine when displaying still images or content with very little (and slow) motion. BUT...when things get moving on the screen, for example when watching a fast action movie, NASCAR race, NFL game, etc, I see large blocks of pixilated-looking areas in the image and it is VERY distracting. My Mom has a 60-something inch LCD TV with cable and I see the same thing there -- only it looks even worse on the bigger screen. Please bear with me because I'm not familiar with the proper technical term for this phenomenon. I don't think it's what I've heard referred to as "smearing" or "motion smearing", though I have seen that on some sets. What I'm talking about are sections of image area on the screen that take on a "blocky" look when they move across or around the screen. I've yet to seen an LCD (or plasma or rear projection set for that matter) at any prices that does not do this -- very disconcerting.
Do all LCD sets do this? Is there a way to eliminate or reduce this problem? Are some people's eyes just more sensitive to this issue than others?
Any info. and advice would be greatly appreciated -- thanks!
Deb
