Currently, I have a Marquee 9500 Ultra. Unfortunately, it needs new Lens fluid. While I have not decided whether or not to repair it (depending on how much effort and cost are), I am trying to get an idea of what my alternative options are.
Based on the recommendation by a friend, I am considering JVC Rs2 Vs Sony VW200. While the list price on the sony is very high, I saw some deals on the net for close to half list (I hope this is OK to post!). Andrew P has a nice RS2 for sale on this forum. If I don't get a chance to buy his, the price difference between the RS2 and the Sony vw200 is probably under $1500 - which is not a deal breaker for me.

Based on my brief review on this forum, The RS2 might have motion blur issue - true? The contrast for both seems excellent. Color rendition seems to be better with the Sony. I am not sensitive to color accuracy but am sensitive to motion blurr (based on my experience with some DLP projectors).

What is the light output comparision of these two?

I have a 155" wide stewart 1.3 perforated screen in a light controlled dedicated room (http://www.audvid.50megs.com/Theater/).
Of course, I am able to use only 95" width with my 9" CRT. Originally, I had purchased a JVC G10 - 10 years ago and used it at 155" width. I did like that DILA picture (at that time!) - no motion blur - not very bright and very low contrast.. Subsequently, I bought a 9" CRT and of course the picture, albeit smaller, is much superior.

I am now being informed that the RS2 and Vw200 are as good as my 9" CRT (and would be a lot less hassle to deal with!).

Another option I am considering is to buy the Sony VW50 (refurb), use it for a year and see what comes out for high light output - to take advantage of the 155" wide screen.

Comments would be appreciated.. If you have viewed both and have bought one of the two.. I would be very interested to know your thoughts behind your selection.

These two projectors have been covered extensively in reviews and comments. The search feature is your best bet.

Both these projectors are arguably better than your 9" CRT.

You are correct. There is a lot of info/reviews on these. Some time there might be too much information available!
I am particularly interested in hearing from those who have researched and viewed both and have purchased one of these two..
Thank you.

I viewed both, preferred the JVC-RS2 and purchased the Marantz 11S2 which I liked even more...

Well both blow away the G10. So that is a good start. I think that in most ways, these current digitals will be better than that 9" Marquee. I have only briefly seen the VW200 and it looked pretty good. I have a RS2 which is an awesome projector.

Joerod has a VW200 and likes it a lot. $1500 difference makes the VW200 a good deal. I wonder if the dealer is legit?

Oh also. Don't forget to give AVS a call for pricing on the two! They have great service and won't rip you off. etc.

Now I have many of the digitals being discussed as well as a highly modified 9500LC ultra, and don't kid yourself about the digitals being better. They are different and in some aspects better but in other aspects worse. The CRT is stil King of the blacks and do not kid yourself for one minute that any digtal under discussions hase blacks that are close. And don't kid yourself than any machine in the 10,00 to 15,00 on/off class can give the black experience of a 35,00 on/off machine which is so very very far away from a CRT. That said, digitals do many things better than CRTs but they just don't have the realism of a CRT FP.

Thank you all for your replies. mark, Your comments about the CRT are also very appreciated - they confirmed my opinion that its worth spending the money to get my CRT repaired.
I was incorrect about the $1500 price difference between rs2 and vw200. Based on feed back from another member, the low prices I saw from google search seem to be a switch and bait scam. AVS/Alan would be the best source for it.
Hence I have decided to spend the money to have my CRT repaired.
As far as I am concerned, this thread can be closed.
