Hi, I do not know why, but my xbox 360 does not have 1080p as an option under the display settings. I have a hd-dvd player that is working, but I can not seem to find the disk it came with. The display is connected by the Microsoft vga cable. I was wondering if there is a way to force the 360 to download the video update for 1080p. I have tried playing games over live and hd-dvds, but nether solved the problem.

If you're connected through VGA you should not have a 1080p option it should show it as 1920 x 1080 resolution. There should also be options for 1280 x 720, and 1366 x 768, and a 480 option as well. There was a 1080p update a LONG time ago which if you go on live anytime you will be forced to update to, if you haven't received the update it is because your console came with it installed already. Let me know if this answers your question.

It sounds like your display does not support 1080P over VGA. Nothing you can do about that. Most displays (old or new) don't support 1080p over analog connections like VGA or component video. At best, they will support a little higher than 720P. HDMI is really the only game in town for 1080P resolution.

Yeah thats a good point I didn't think of that as I was thinking of what it's displayed as. My TV is one of many that will only do 1366 x 768 through VGA even though it is a native 1080p set.:)

wow good call. I can't believe I didn't even think of that. It does not support 1080p over vga. Looks like its time to upgrade the xbox; the display is a hc4900 mitsu projector.
