I was thinking about it and i noticed alot of plasma makers specifically are opting out of making models below 50" of their top or even midrange displays, which makes it a little tougher to settle overall what the top 40-42" model would be when including the 2008 models.

anyone have any ideas?

I wish Pioneer would make a 32-inch plasma.

Anything over 32 inches is way too big for my small apartment bedroom.

I've had a PS3 since launch. I won't use it without a flat panel HDTV. And I won't get an HDTV unless I can get one no bigger than 32 inches, and can display absolute (or at least near-absolute) black.

(I don't like big screen TVs, just as I don't like big houses and big cars -- but I'm not gonna get into that.)

I wonder how many more years I have to wait for such a TV to come to market. Two years? Three years? Five years??

Ugh.

hey now, let's not get crazy here, at least Pioneer MADE a 42" model at one point in time, as did/do many other brands to some degree.

anyway, let's not let this get off topic *points to precise OP subject*

I appreciate you being the first person to provide input, but i could do without the tude'. That's like me saying "ok, but Randywalters probably would say a Panasonic Plasma anyway:rolleyes: "

but instead i'll take the high road and just presume it's a sincere answer, although a little but more of why would be nice.

From my research, the Panasonic TH-42PX80 is hands-down the best 42" flat panel on the market for the price. Randy would disagree... but in my opinion and from what 'scientific evidence' I've been able to gather, 1080p would be a major waste with a 42" screen. (hence why I'm not recommending the PZ800u) You'd have to sit closer than 6ft to even see a difference... and closer than 5ft to see all of 1080p. I doubt there are many people that sit THAT CLOSE to their main TV.

For less than $1000, the PX80 is an amazing television.

although that is the best VALUE, I would say the 42/46 pz850 is the best of 2008. (IMO)

you could saze some money and go pz85 though

In the LCD world, the Samsung 650, though that could change in a month when new Sony Z4100 is out.

Yes, I completely ditto that. Thanks for posting about those two models. Might even consider the A750 at some point, since that has more of the same features that the Z4100's going to have, including DLNA and media storage features.

firstly, let's merge the two techs for this consideration so best flat panel overall ideally.

Also, why not the 750 anyway? I only ask because i was at a store recently and the 750 did seem a bit different (this could be due to calibration, but i did notice a very clear difference).
