Im gonna hook up My television (T5087S) to Yamaha RX-V363, and Yamaha speakers NS-SP1600. I need help with wiring. What kinda Optical cable do I get, toslink or mini for my Xbox 360 and my Directv HD DVR. I also am wondering where and what kind of speaker wire I should buy thats not to expensive. My budget for the speaker wire is like 40 bux. I am thinking I should get 100 ft. My living room is about 20' length and 15' wide. I also have cathedral cielings about 11 or 12 ft. high at its highest point. I am also looking for a component wire extender for my Xbox 360 so i can put it further away from my tv. I went to mono price and thats where I saw the different kind of opticals minni and toslink which really confused me. I was also looking at 16 gauge wires but I am not sure thats what I need or if they were the right wires. I need 2 opticals about 6 ft. or 10 ft.. Im not even sure how much speaker wire I need, and a extender to make my component cables longer for my Xbox360. Can anyone help!!! Thanks for reading.

The 360 uses TOSlink optical cable.
A good source for good cables cheap is monoprice.com.

Ahhhh cabling..the great lie of Home Theatre. Today even cheap cables are made out of "Good Stuff". Opticals are Opticals.....so long as they pass light its all ones and zeros. Just dont bend them or crimp them, then the fibers break and you need a new cable.

Digital Coax is the same thing..the cheapest RCA composite cable you can buy from RadioShack will make a perfectly good Digital COAX cable.

Speaker Wire, now here you want to go with a slightly thicker wire, but 16 gauge is like...dont they use that crap on Suspension Bridges? :) Any reasonable thickness will do, I think I use 18 gauge on my own...or maybe it was 20 gauge. So long as you get good contact you are likely to be fine.

Actually, 16 gauge wire is not really all that thick, but should work ok for the size of room that you have.

Here is what you will need to extend your 360's component cables. I have never done it so I'm not sure how the PQ will be affected.

3 RCA coupler (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10401&cs_id=1040107&p_id=3002&seq=1&format=2)

OR...

12' 3 RCA cable (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10235&cs_id=1023502&p_id=961&seq=1&format=2)

100' 16 ga speaker wire (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10239&cs_id=1023903&p_id=2823&seq=1&format=2)

My HT room in my basement is nearly the same size as yours, I ran 14 ga speaker wire and it works just fine The 14 ga is about $6 more per 100'.

All that stuff right there with shipping is gonna be under $30, gotta love monoprice.

Hope that helps you.:)
