Im looking at buying a HD camcorder and i was wondering if the PS3 will play the 3" discs(im looking at getting the disc format). Thats the only blue ray player i have and obviously would like too watch what I record in HD. The reason i ask is that the ps3 dosent have a tray like a regular dvd player it loads from the front and sucks the disc in and I am concerned that the disc will get stuck. Any info will be helpful, thanks in advance for any responses.

First question: what the User's Manual says?

I have the Sony UX1 camcorder and the PS3. The 8cm discs that the UX1 uses are great. Finalize the disc on the camcorder and stick directly in the PS3 for HD video. The PS3 plays them just fine.

If you ever get a corrupted disc (which happens by the way), I can't say enough good things about cdroller. Recovered my daughter's birthday and a trip to Disney.

Thanks for the info. How do you like that UX1? How much recording time do you get on the discs?

I like it. It's little big, but the image quality is really good. I get about 15 to 20 minutes on a disc using the second best quality setting. I do no editing. Really, I gave up editing for the simple reason that I just wasn't doing it. Stuff would sit around, never get done, so when I got this camcorder I decided I would just shoot and be done. About all I've done with it on the computer is pull video off and burn it onto a full size dvd. But mostly now I just finalize the little dvds and play them on the PS3.

If I were to pick another camcorder I might go with a hard disk or flash memory, then burn onto dvds for an archive.

Hmm really, you got me pondering now, I was looking at that new sony HDR-UX20 if I went HD or the dcr-dvd810 if I went non-hd. Both of these are mini dvd but both have 8GB of internal hd space. I dont have a dvd burner so thats why I'm looking at the disc version instead of the hard drive ones. I want to record my son grow up and I dont want too lose the memories if my pc hard drive crashes(like my last pc). Now you said you get 15-20 minutes on the disc, do you use the single layer ones or the double layer ones? And how much time do you get on the discs if you record in standard def? And do you need a special dvd burner to transfer HD content too the discs or does a reg burner do that? Thanks for the help man i do appreciate it.:)

I use single layer discs. I would use the double layer ones, but they are too expensive. I started off using the two-sided single layer discs from Ritek, but stopped because you can't label them. I'll use rewriteables normally, but I have used write-once discs as well. I now try to use name brand discs for quality sake.

Actually, I never record in standard def, but I've read that it gives you a little more recording time. I use a regular dvd burner on my PC and the included Sony software to make copies.

Ok thanks again for the info.
