View Full Version : LG BH200 Connectivity problem
musiclover408 05-13-08, 08:34 PM Hi guys..
I just purchased a brand new unit and am unable to connect the it to the internet. I have upgraded the software to: BH02080402F and the driver version is 0701. I do have the latest firmware as well.
My internet worked fine with my previous Toshiba HD A3 so I am at a loss for why it is not working on this new unit. I just get the globe in the right hand corner that lights up and then goes off... on and on... even during a movie!
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Duane
You need the 0702 driver, i think?
And did you change any of the hex code? if so, it might affect connectivity depending on which code you used.

You definately need driver 702 to get it to work.
bradavon 05-13-08, 10:10 PM Does it work on any disc? What country did you buy the BH200 in?
musiclover408 05-13-08, 10:10 PM I actually tried to download the 0702 upgrade from megaupload but I am curious about 1 thing before I try it. In the instructions, it says to ONLY put it in your machine if it's file size is 1,257,962 bytes but the one that I downloaded shows a file size of 1,229 KB. The instructions say: If it's anything else DO NOT use it and download it again. If you ignore this and try to upgrade the Driver with an incomplete ROM file you could brick your player.
I have downloaded it a few times and it keeps coming through at the same size...so needless to say, I am nervous to use it.
Anybody tried it yet with the 1,229 file size?
Thanks
peterjcat 05-13-08, 10:17 PM Check the actual size of your file in bytes. 1,257,962 bytes = 1228.47 KB and your system is almost certainly just rounding up to the nearest KB.
What are your Network settings? Make sure the IP Mode is Dynamic or Static depending on your network, try adjusting the Network Speed, and try different Cookie Settings. (I use Dynamic IP, Network Speed=Medium, Cookies=On.)
bradavon 05-13-08, 10:26 PM 1.19Mb / 1228.47Kb / 1,257,962 bytes are all the same amount. One is just specified in Megabytes, one Kilobytes and one Byes.
If you right click on the ROM file using Windows Explorer (or another File Manager) and choose Properties you will likely see the size in Bytes is: 1,257,962 bytes. I've mentioned it in bytes as 1,257,961 bytes for example may still be rounded up to 1228.47Kb, but crucially the file won't be complete.
The Instructions.doc file inside the zip file also gives details how to check this.
1,229 KB and 1228.47Kb are likely the same, depending how your File Manager/Computer rounds up, again another reason why I've listed it in Bytes. Here we are:
http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/4563/28368916aa6.th.jpg (http://img168.imageshack.us/my.php?image=28368916aa6.jpg)
If you ignore this and try to upgrade the Driver with an incomplete ROM file you could brick your player.I'm actually not sure what would happen if you tried loading an incomplete ROM file: Would it just fail or would it Brick the player? Personally I wouldn't like to test it find out.
This is "airing on the side of caution" as even the LG Service Site doesn't tell you to check the file size before putting it in the BH200 (it should do though!).
bradavon 05-13-08, 10:32 PM Do you have to have the 0702 driver loaded? I don't think you do, 0702 only fixes issues with: Saw IV, Hitman and Enchanted on Blu-ray. But you're better off installing it still.
It's more likely to be something along the lines that Peterjcat has mentioned.
I am presuming your BH200 is from America or Canada? And you've not changed any of the EEPROM codes? If you've no idea what that means you won't have changed the codes.
musiclover408 05-13-08, 11:47 PM I actually got it up and running. I restarted my router and modem and that worked! Thanks for the ideas though! I have now updated the firmware and driver. What I do want to do now is make the player region free for both Pal and NTSC. I loved being able to use the USB drive for the other updates...is it possible to do the region free upgrades with USB instead of burning a CD? I tried once burning a CD with the NTSC hack but it didn't work. I put the CD in the LG and it just said Data Disc but it didn't come up with the menu that was supposed to.
Any ideas on this problem?
Thanks again!
bradavon 05-14-08, 12:08 AM Does your TV support PAL? If so obviously enable PAL first. I don't believe the RMTM (Region Management Test Mode) Hack works on a USB Stick, you could always try though.
It's possible the CD you burnt wasn't a standard CD, click here for instructions:

A DVD may work too but CD is better. If your TV isn't PAL compatible I'd wouldn't enable PAL support but it's still worth making it Region Free.
musiclover408 05-14-08, 12:23 AM How do I know if my TV is PAL compatible? I have a 60inch Hitachi LCD Rear Projection... it's older, only 1080 I
musiclover408 05-14-08, 01:06 AM Ok, I have followed the instructions perfectly to make the CD for the NTSC region free hack. I put the disc in the LG and it still isn't working. It reads the disc as a "data" disc but doesn't display the region free menu that it is supposed to...
What could I be doing wrong?
bradavon 05-14-08, 01:07 AM Personally I would: Put the model number into Google and see what comes up or look in the manual.
If it isn't PAL compatible it's still worth using the RMTM hack for Non-R1 SD DVDs (provided you have some). You live in North America right? I've now asked that question 3 times ;) :D
What could I be doing wrong?
You could try another CD, sorry otherwise I'm not sure, provided you've checked it's the only file on the CD and in that subfolder. It's not an NTSC Region hack btw :).
You could ask someone to post you a working CD.

Yes I am in the US.

Yes it is the ONLY file on the cd and it is in the scarlet folder all by itself...
musiclover408 05-14-08, 09:50 AM Update:
I have now tried a blank CD and a blank CDRW and neither one is working properly.
If anyone else out there has had this problem and was able to fix it, please let me know.
Thanks much in advance!
Duane
What software are you using to burn it? I used Nero and it was fine for me.
Yes it is the ONLY file on the cd and it is in the scarlet folder all by itself...
And is the Scarlet (with a capital "S") folder inside a folder named RMTM0000?
bradavon 05-14-08, 12:17 PM Have you found the folders are case sensitive Dring? That hadn't occurred to me.
It's probably worth trying a second burning program.
XPs builtin cd writer will work but you must keep the folder structure.
Have you found the folders are case sensitive Dring?
No, and it's unlikely to be an issue, but I thought perhaps the fact that musiclover408 changed the capitalization in his/her message indicated a less-than-exact following of the instructions.
bradavon 05-14-08, 02:34 PM Cheers Dring.

With any CD burning program you should be able to open a new Data project for a blank CD. Then just drag and drop the RMTM0000 folder from your computer into the CD burning program window and click the option to burn the CD. I would use CD instead of CDRW.

I was in the same situation. My Toshiba connected to the network without any problems but BH200 would not connect using Dynamic IP. So I ended up using Static IP inputting the different IP addresses and now it is able to connect.
Let us know if you need any help with Static IP setting.
cheers

I also had the same problem. I had to use a static ip address, and now it works just great!

Ah, finally there is a discussion about network-connectivity not working :)
I'm running the april-firmware and the 701 driver on my european LG and have no connection to the network. IP is set to dynamic.
Funny thing is, that running the january firmware (for Europe the last official released firmware), there is no problem with network-connection. I first thought, it's a problem running the "only for US/Canada" released april-firmware on a european-player. But now it looks, like others have the same issue.
So, I will try to set a Static IP in the settings. But now I need help. Where do I get this IP adresses from? Are they depending on the provider I am using, or are they always the same for the LG?
Any help out there ?
Thanks for helping me, getting my LG finally online !
You need to know your network settings to use Static IP.
The easiest way to get some idea is to open a command prompt on a pc connected to the same network and type "ipconfig /all" and press return. It should return an IP address, default gateway and DNS servers in the information, write these down. Now enter this information in the LG BH200 but change the last number of the IP address to a higher different one below 255 (eg. 240).
The above is heavily simplified but should work for most people.
bradavon 05-15-08, 10:58 AM Ah, finally there is a discussion about network-connectivity not working :)
I did suggest you start a thread a couple of times ;) :D
The problem is that the ethernet connection on the BH200 is just flaky - sometimes it works other times it does not. I always have to change and unchange settings in it to get the connection to work. I have always somehow managed to get it to work with the dynamic setting, but it usually takes a while. The PS3 is still the easiest for me to connect to the internet for updates. My HD-A2 never has been able to connect.

It's the same like installing the 702 driver :D I always wanted to......but never did :D

Just wanted to let you all know that I was able to get the CD to work last night. I popped it in and it worked fine. I have no idea why it didn't work all the times I tried it the first time. Maybe having the unit off over night did something to it and allowed it. I played my first PAL DVD and it worked fine! Thanks for everyone who helped out!

Dammit! Does not work
I've found my network-settings:
- IP xx.xx.xxx.101 -> changed to .240
- Gateway xx.xx.xxx.x
- DNS Primary xxx.xxx.x.xxx
I set the IP-mode to "Static IP" and registered the above information in the "IP settings"
Whats the "Subnet mask" ? The LG entered automatically the same number than the IP-adress was set.
Do I have to register my account-ID and password anywhere? I did not find something.
Is there any European with an euro player running the april firmware who has access ? Or is it really a problem running the april-fw on a EU player ?
Sorry and again, thanks for further information/help.
bradavon 05-15-08, 01:12 PM I played my first PAL DVD and it worked fine! Thanks for everyone who helped out!
That's good to hear Music Lover.
robertpierre 05-15-08, 02:31 PM The subnet mask usually should not be the same as the IP address. Default is 255.255.255.0 - you may wish to try it. The static IP would have to be different from anything else on your network - networked printer, router etc. Make sure that the gateway address and DNS entry are not the same. And, try rebooting your network: router/dsl modem....
Networks can be hell:eek:
bradavon 05-15-08, 02:43 PM I've never had any reason to change the Subnet mask form the default.

Maybe I spoke to soon. I just played another PAL dvd and this one has shifted the picture over to the left about 1/4 of my screen and the color goes a bit red at times.
Any idea how to fix this?

Actually to add on to this. When I first put in a regular DVD or Blu Ray or HDDVD, the player has the screen about 1/4 cut off on the right when it is "loading" but then corrects itself before playing the movie. Is this normal with the hack?
bradavon 05-16-08, 01:01 PM Does your TV properly support PAL? No it's not normal per say but could be a side effect of enabling PAL. This sounds connected to:
Many TVs in the USA and Canada do not support 50Hz video input. When you enable the BH200 PAL capability, the startup images (e.g., splash screen, initial Home menu, any error messages) are transmitted at 50Hz and will therefore not display properly or at all on many North American TVs. I am not sure at what point it will switch to 60Hz output, other than loading an NTSC DVD . . .Read on: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=13860556#post13860556
I'm not sure there is a lot you can do about it other than getting a new TV (obviously overkill) or only enabling PAL support when you specifically need it. I'm guessing you only have a handful of PAL DVDs.
I personally have 2/3 PAL and 1/3 NTSC but thankfully all PAL "LCD" TVs (UK in my case) can handle NTSC perfectly fine too.

Thanks... it appears that my TV is not fully PAL compatible. I guess I should remove the hack...correct? Just to make sure, to remove it do I just put that disc in again and change the code back to 00?
Thanks
bradavon 05-16-08, 02:02 PM To remove the RMTM hack you need to factory reset from the Region Info window by pressing PAUSE (the other factory reset options don't remove the RMTM hack) BUT there is really no need to do that. Re-running the RMTM Hack and choosing R1 doesn't "actually" remove it, even though the end result is the same.
All you want to do is put it back to 00 which will switch it from Region A + NTSC/PAL to Region A + NTSC Only. That way you can still play Non-R1 NTSC DVDs.
Personally I'd leave it SD DVD Multiregion and put it back to 00. Then later on change it to 80 for the odd PAL DVD you may have. Switching the region code back from Region Free to Region 1 is overkill and isn't the problem anyway. It's a PAL not Region coding issue.
It's not a case of removing the hack but changing the BH200 to use another code :), in this case 00, which will resolve the problem. I would personally power cycle after doing this too.
I should alter the instructions, it does imply the PAL and SD DVD MR Hacks are intrinsically linked when in fact they aren't and are only connected by course of practicality (i.e - You need it Region Free to play PAL in the first place).

Gotcha! So, when you say to power cycle after doing that...do you mean just turn it off and then back on. Or, do I need to pull the power cord?
Thanks again for all your help!
bradavon 05-16-08, 04:51 PM Just the normal on/off button will do. The power cord would be overkill.
Glad I could help. At least you still have a way to play PAL DVDs.
