View Full Version : Haverty's "Hollywood" theater seats compared to Berkline, Palliser?

I've been trying to research theater seats for a few weeks now that it's made my head hurt! :D

One issue living where I do there's just not a big local home theater market to sample out theater chairs, so it's limited on what I can physically sample.

I did find a very nice collection from Havertys. Actually they're very nice and very, very comfortable. I sat in a few locally (while not Palliser or Berkline) and they were pretty bad. So the Haverty's Hollywood line was a big change from some of the crap I've sat in recently.

Haverty's Hollywood Pros:
Comfortable, yet supportive.
Excellent neck support. (big plus as I am 6'2)
great neck support whether sitting upright or reclined
elegantly powered
100% leather. (felt great)
Know what I am getting!

Con's:
A tad expensive
Only 3 colors: Black/Dark Brown/Ivory

Has anyone had the opportunity to demo these Haverty ones AND some from Palliser & Berkline? This would be very helpful information. :)

As you know this is a major investment and the biggest & costliest item in my HT. So the decision is rather LARGE. :D

I could always drive to Dallas and check some out locally but that's about a 4.5 hour drive.

I do like the Haverty's line but their color options weren't necessarily my first choices. Although black or dark brown leather really is pretty versatile.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any guidance here. Theater chairs is the last missing piece for my theater. :)

Anyone? :)

...I do realize that seating preferences are very subjective. Maybe moreso than audio gear ;). What feels comfy to one might feel just so-so to someone else.

I was wanting some perspective from anyone who has some experience with these Haverty seats. It seems that Palliser & Berkline are the theater seats of choice in terms of price & options though.

I think I am going to go with the "Hollywood" collection from Havertys. Being able to actually sit in these locally instead of relying on online reviews of others appears to be a safe bet.

my buddy is a sales rep at haverty's and those seats are very comfortable. I ended up ordering Palliser through haverty's but they cancelled the line right during our ordering process. I ended up going with Berklines through Roman and am very happy. The thing I didn't like about those seats is that they are just so big for the number of seats. they are extremely comfortable though. Don't forget to negotiate the prices.

forgot to mention that the pallisers did come in even though we cancelled the order and they were very comfortable but not as much as the ones you are looking at.

Thank you Jay. :) I went back in there this evening and did discover a slight negative; the arm rest wedges where your arm would rest is not very padded. In fact, you can nearly feel the wood below it. Really kind of disappointed me & has me once again going back to ground zero. I know there's no perfect chair but dangit the arm rests need to be comfy! :D

Again, thanks for the response Jay.

I just got a set of these and am very happy with them. Roman quoted me a good price on Berklines, but I couldn't find any locally to try out, and was loath to buy seat unsat. Haverty's had a no sales tax, 18 months same as cash deal that I couldn't say no to.

And I agree with all of the comments above, pro and con.

Oh, and if seats are the most expensive thing in your home theater, upgrade your equipment first. These are the fifth most expensive things in my home theater.

I am in need of home theater seating - just one row. We have a Havertys locally. I saw their stetson sectional. Fits my bill. Wife likes it. Anyone have this one. Any cons. Here is the link. (http://www.havertys.com/Product_32823?curIndex=0&resultCount=4)
