Hello, all.
I'm still hanging with a 62" Toshiba Rear Projection from 5 years back. It has burned in just beautifully, and has developed the same visual depth one sees on a movie screen.
My question is: this classic has only component inputs. I'm knocked out by everything I've read about the advanced aspect-ratio controls on the new Oppo 983. Will I be able to make use of these great features?
If not, will the 980 give me decent AR control, via component inputs?
Thanks!

Thanks! You can't access advanced aspect-ration via component. The Anchor Bay output is via HDMI. I think you are coming close to biting the bullet and getting a new 1080P display that supports HDMI input.
Component is limited to 480P.

Thank you, John.
Are the 980 AR controls decent via component? Do they exist?
(My main experience with AR controls is via the Jaton PSD7611K player.)\

The 980 (and 983 on component) just has simple zooming.
All the Oppos have optional pillarboxing for 4:3 titles.
