View Full Version : XBox Live on Samsung a750? (Lagging Issues)
spfhelmiii 05-15-08, 10:37 PM I'm curious if anyone has any comments about playing games over Live on one of the new Samsung a750s (or 650s for that matter), particularly with regards to lag between you making an action via your controller and it registering on the screen.
This would be a primary concern on games like Call of Duty 4, which is one of my games of choice. If lag is present with these new Samsung models, it would be a deal-breaker for me. Any comments are greatly appreciated, thanks.
eminence55 05-15-08, 11:08 PM Just some clarification, are you asking if the a750 or a650 lag?
cstrasz 05-15-08, 11:29 PM From what I've read, you shouldn't run into any lag issues at all (if you're talking about lag with the set). Now lag with the internet is a different matter :). But the DLP's are some of the quickest responding sets with numbers in the microseconds.

The X360 and the 750 and 650 play fine. Input lag is pretty much invisible for all games except a few that need frame by frame timing. (Guitar Hero and Rockband need a quick in game calibration) If you read the 650 owners thread, most COD4 players say they are better at the game since AMP lets them see enemies in movement more clearly. The Xbox 360 also will upscale everything to 1080p, so the TV does not need to handle that workload thusly lowering the lag overall. Older consoles and the PS3 can't upscale everything and can end up lagging on some games. (VERY few in the PS3's case)

It would be basically the same.

First off, the new 750 is an LCD not a DLP. Next up, DLP is some of the worst sets for input lag out of all others due to being a projection technology. The "Microseconds" you are talking about applies to how quickly the screen resolves motion, aka a lack of blur. That has zero to do with input lag. AVS is a great place to learn about HD technology. Do some more reading up and you'll have it all figured out in no time.
To the OP, I am a 650 owner so if you need any more questions answered, feel free to ask.

I'm not sure if you intended to come across as smug but I'll assume not :). Either way, the 750's are not LCD only - they are available in DLP as well.
Second, I confused response time with input lag. I was going off of what I've seen mentioned on AVS previously, so if others are wrong, good to know. I've seen response time asked so many times with regards to input lag that I guess the bad data's still going around, even on these forums.
Either way, I have yet to hear lag issues with the 750 series DLP's of this year or last year's DLP sets from Samsung.

I own a 46" a750, have played call of duty 4 on live and it played perfectly.
I own the 67" 750 dlp and there is no lag for ANY games.

Uhh, no.
Certain DLPs in the past (Samsung DLPs) have had a large amount of lag due to the slower digital image processing chips that Samsung has used. But the fact that it is a "projection technology" has absolutely nothing to do with the lag.
I've seen some Samsung LCDs with some pretty horrible lag, too.
But other DLPs (like my old Mitsubishi WD-52525) have no perceptible lag whatsoever.
the6step 07-08-08, 09:26 PM There is an argument going on in the Samsung 750 series thread regarding this. What is basically boils down to, is that the processing that's being done on the picture makes the game a little more prone to lag, especially if you are the type of person who is twitch sensitive and plays split second reaction reliant games like COD4(online),Ninja Gaiden II, amongst other things.
The remedy to this, is to switch on game mode. Now, it does get rid of a lot of the processing and might not look as nice as how it would if all the processing were there, but it reduces lag levels to something you wouldn't even notice. I'm actually getting my TV in 2 days and I am highly sensitive to that stuff and I'll be posting my thoughts on the subject.
