Hello everyone.
Let me just start by saying that I have been reading this forum (linux section) over and over for the past couple of weeks. I'm getting ready to dive into my first ever HTPC / dvr replacement. This has been a long time coming but I'm now just deciding to drop dish and other solutions for a PC.
After much review and reading, I have come up with the following hardware:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Proc
ARCTIC COOLING ALPINE64 92mm CPU Cooler
Soundgraph iMON VFD-B/Remote
hec Black 0.7mm Thickness SECC 7K09 HTPC Case
ABIT AN-M2HD (LE) w/GeForce7050PV Motherboard (alternative?)
HDHomeRun Dual ATSC Tuners
Seagate 750GB SATA (already had it)
The mobo is currently out of stock at NewEgg and I am also seeing that it is rather old. I'm actually looking for a replacement here, any suggestions?
The primary function is HD recording (via OTA/ATSC) and playback. It MUST pass the WAT and be able to seamlessly record two HD shows while watching a 3rd (previously recorded). .iso, .mkv .ts etc are other things I will use it for.
I have a rear projection 55" Sony HDTV so I will use HDMI to the TV and spdif to a receiver for dd. I would MUCH rather prefer audio over HDMI, so if you know of another mobo that does this under linux/myth then please suggest it. In the meantime I'll use stereo to TV w/ HDMI.
I'm looking for feedback on hardware/software considering my planned usage. I also fully realize that there are other mobos w/ nvidia 6100 graphics that would work and are cheaper but if I end up making a jump to Vista then I want all the features I can possibly get out of a current mobo.
Thanks for looking!
