I am having problems adjusting the Oppo 980 and the Infocus 4805 to look half as good as with the old Brave D1... The picture appears dull and lacking in sharpness. I'm not sure where to go from here. I used the Avia disc but this not so good.

What are some good settings to start with? 480P, 1080i?

You might try experimenting with the Oppo's color space options. Some displays like one setting more than another. Try the beta firmware, it might have new options.

The Infocus is 854x480 native resolution, right? I'd stick with 480i or 480p from the player.
