Please help me make up my mind on Flat Panel TV.

Ceiling: 18 Ft
Windows: 15 X 2.5 Ft X 2 on east wall
Viewing Distance: 11 to 16 Ft

TV Content Ratio:
SD: 60% to 70 % (Thru Shaw HD Receiver in 4:3 Aspect mode to avoid artifacts & distortion)
DVD: 10-20%
HD: 10-20% (Thru Shaw HD Receiver and Blueray)
Gaming: 10% (Wii in near future)

Issues:
1) Artifacts or blurriness on SD Channels.
2) Natural light during Summer day times due to large room with windows with top 8 feet that cannot be covered but no direct sunlight.
3) Glare/reflection issues. Ambient light can't be controlled due to open design.

Choices:
A) 46" 1080P 120Hz LCD (Sony's new 46" 2008 model KDL-46S4100 @ $1599.99)
Pros: Price, Brightness, Up-conversion?
Cons: Size, No depth and dimension

B) 52" 1080P 120Hz LCD (Please recommend)
Pros: Brightness, Up-conversion?
Cons: No depth and dimension, blurriness on SD channels, Price, Contrast

C) 50" 720P Panasonic or Samsung Plasma (Please recommend Anti glare/reflection models)
Pros: Price, Depth and dimension
Cons: Brightness, Upconversion?, Burn In from watching 4:3 Aspect

B) 50" 1080P Panasonic or Samsung Plasma (Please recommend Anti glare/reflection models)
Pros: Depth and dimension
Cons: Brightness, Upconversion?, Price, Burn In from watching 4:3 Aspect

I don't want to spend more than 3K on Plasma or LCD

I love the depth and dimensions of Plasma TV's and how it handles fast motion.

I like the brightness of LCD TV's

I like the design of Sony XBR4 52".

I am more comfortable with spending near 2K

Thanks.

I'm too tired to decide which set would be the best, but you should probably go LCD. You have way too many black bars to be free of burn in me thinks.

After looking at some upcoming models, I have narrowed down my list as following.

46"
SONY KDL46S4100 $1520 OR SAMSUNG LN46A550 $1500

OR
52"
SONY KDL52XBR4 $3300 OR SAMSUNG LN52A650/750 $2800

I want to know which TV will do the best job in upscaling 480i and have less glare/reflection issues.

Whatever you do, get the biggest set you can. 11-16ft is pretty far away. I have a 52" and I sit around 8ft away. It feels just right, but I could've gone bigger with no problem.

Glare and reflection will be about the same for both of the Sony sets.

Someone will correct me on this but doesn't the Sammy A650 have gloss screen instead of a matt finish? This may be a downer for you, last time I seen one I really didn't pay that much attention to the finish of the screen.

I also think that the 650 is a better set than the Sony in the PQ depatment. However the Sony XBR series have always been really good looking.

I will warn you as many tried to warn me, when you get the set home, it is really interesting how small it looks there compared to how big it was in the store. If you can afford the 52" then get it. I started looking at 37" screens and ended up with a 52". Glad that I did.

Screen size will also play into if you need help when you get it home as well. A 46" you may be able to move/mount by yourself, a 52" you will need help.

My recomendation is the Samsung 52". Although I think that the Sony may do a better job with SD material.

If you have a portable DVD player that you can take to a store, use that to test both sets for SD. That is what I did. That way you control what is being played and the source as well. If a store will not let you do this, go somewhere else if you can.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I decided to get 50" plasma now.

I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Prices are really high here as compared to USA and I don't want to buy from USA online stores as it will be cumbersome to return it if something goes wrong.

I will either get Samsung PN50A450 or Panasonic TH-50PX77U.

The prices for these TV sets are comparable to US prices.

Anybody has idea where I can get Samsung PN50A450 at good price in Vancouver.

Thanks.

Panasonic TH-50PX77U or Samsung PN50A450

I live in BC, Canada and Canadian prices for these sets are comparable to US prices and within my budget of $2000. I am more inclined towards Sammy PN50A450 since its latest model with higher contrast ratio. Any ideas or recommendations?

Don't worry about burn-in on a new PDP.
With a viewing distance of 11'+, you'll want a 50" or bigger.
Unless the LCD you are considering has a matte screen its' ambient light performance will not be much better than a plasma at all.
*Considering so much of your viewing will be SD, then you should look for a brand that does SD well...most displays are not very good with SD and in my opinion especially not LCD.

Cool.

I went to the store and looked at both Sam PN50A450 or Pan TH-50PX77U

Pan TH-50PX77U - Good anti reflective screen
Sam PN50A450 - Overall good specs and looks but screen seems to be more reflective than Panny.

I couldn't find any review of Sam PN50A450.
