So I already have an Xbox 360 and am having trouble deciding wether to get a Wii or PS3.
Any suggestions?

hands down ps3

Wii is good for parties and company. But for single player use it's almost useless. Mario galaxy, Zelda, RE4 and a few others are about the only games on it you'll play single player wise.

Ps3 really impresses me so far, I've had one since Feb. It's going to get a few great games this year. MGS bundle coming in June. Get that one.

Alright let me just add in one more factor.
Pretty much all my gaming is done with my friends when they come over (almost every day...they live close).
But then again we are around 17 years old so im not sure the Wii will really have games that will fit for our age

unless you want to live in a Mario world for the rest of your life, go for the ps3. It shouldn't even be a question.

Since you already have one of the HD systems, I'd get the Wii.

I don't care what anyone says, but Mario Galaxy is pretty much the best game ever made. And Wii sports will keep you guys busy and drinking for hours. Drinking kool-aid that is...since you're 17.

I'll buck the trend with fugiot.

95% of the games you can get on the 360, you can get on the PS3. The Wii adds a bunch of more exclusive titles that are just fun to play.

Sometimes, I just want mindless fun and the Wii provides that...

Edit: I'm around 30 and last night, played MarioKart with similar aged friends and had a blast... Even the non-gamers were jumping in and playing.

If you get a Wii, keep the box. It will be useful for storing it 2 months later when you realize you never play it.

If college is in your future then I would suggest the Wii. It's more sociable than a PS3, IMO.

You're never too old for Mario Kart or Wii bowling.

You gotta figure though that 98% of wii games are crap though. The only good games are the official nintendo ones.

I have a PSWii60 and I tend to play the 360 and PS3 way more. With PS3 you have Uncharted, R+C, Resistence, and soon to be Resistence 2 and Killzone 2. If you've read IGN's take on the pre-alpha software for Killzone 2, it sounds amazing. Although with Wii you get Brawl and Mario Kart.

I like the combo of either the 360 and Wii or the PS3 and Wii, I have all three but I find that having both the 360 and the PS3 is almost pointless.

I own all 3 consoles, and would rate them game play wise in this order-

1. 360
2. Wii
3. PS3

Now if I'm going off of the total package of what each console offers, adding in graphics, interface, online play and other features besides gaming, then I'd rate them this way-

1. 360 - online gaming is far superior to others, Live interface is second to none, Media Center extender
2. PS3 - BluRay player and media sharing
3. Wii - not in the same league as the others

As with everything these days, YMMV. You probably already know what you want to do, and are here asking for a confirmation rather than our opinions, which is cool.

Bottom line is do what YOU want to do and to heck with what we think.

most games are available for both the 360 and PS3, so unless you want the PS3 for an exclusive title or a Blu-Ray player, i would recommend the Wii. sure, a majority of the Wii games probably don't appeal to you, but the ones do make it more than worth it...

also, don't forget that the Wii is $150 less than the PS3, so you can get the system and 3 good games for the price of just the PS3 system alone...

The PS3 is great just from a Blu-Ray perspective. It's also excellent as a media client. At this point any games available on the 360 and PS3 I would purchase for the 360 going forth. I'm not interested in the Wii but my wife and 6 year old love it. Mario, Zack and Wikki, Boom Blox, etc. You've got your Res Evil 4 (and other titles available on multi-platform) as well, but I keep seeing it as better suited for kids, generally speaking.

GH3/RB players are not happy with unavaible DLC on their Wii.

The Wii isn't even last gen.. No DD 5.1 is a crime.. Online is still a farce.. How many games are online compatible? No 720p/1080i/1080p..No HDMI.. can't play DVD/CD & 3rd party developers half assing on the Wii remote..

I eventually did but I found that that the motion type skills don't really carry over from game to game. I don't really play it much though.

the ps3 media capabilities are worth it alone for me. I do not use my 360 for media at all anymore. I don't even use my mod'd xbox one with xbmc anymore, all ps3.

Don't kid yourself that the Wii is cheaper. The system is, but the controllers/numchucks certainly are not, and add in that you need a classic controller for gamecube games, or another 4 controllers for gamecube games and some virtual console games.

Also, the Wii network, and VC games are surprisingly limited...consider it is nintendo that is.

If you get the wii, keep the box. I got mine in March, used it maybe a dozen times. 360 consumes my time.

Its a tough call on whether to pick up a PS3 or Wii; they're both very different consoles with very different target audiences and capabilities.

If you have a 360, you already have access to many of the games also available on the PS3. There are a few great first party exclusives (Ratchet, Resistance, Uncharted come to mind) and there will undoubtedly be more, but the vast bulk of titles appear on both platforms.

The PS3 excels at being a multimedia hub; great picture/audio/video streaming and of course it's a first rate BluRay player. In many ways, the games have been a bonus for me so far; the exclusives have been too few and far between.

The Wii definitely has a bad case of the "cutes" but it also has some standout games and the wiimote/nunchuck control scheme definitely makes for a different gameplay experience. I'm working my way thru Metroid Prime 3 right now and am having a blast. Resident Evil 4 is also very good and Tiger Woods with the Wiimote is 100 times better and more immersive than any gamepad. The Wiimote lends itself to being a very good light gun alternative allowing you to try out games like Ghost Squad. The Wii is also turning out to be a great exercise machine (try doing a few rounds of Wii Boxing every other day - quite the workout actually).

Both consoles have their strengths and weaknesses but for pure gameplay, I'd tend to lean towards the Wii. Personally, I own all three consoles - each has its uses - and if its within anyone's budget that's the approach I'd advocate.

That's my thought exactly. I had all three until two weeks ago. Until I bought the Wii so I could play vid games with the gf. We had fun playing the last couple weeks and I love Mario Kart online. I sold my PS3 almost instantly. I had it for months and never even purchased a game for it. Only Blu Rays. At that point, I had not turned on the PS3 for a freakin' month.

I am completely satisfied with 360 for hardcore gaming. I was looking for a reason to purchase a Wii for months. Having fun w/the gf and playing Mario Kart were those reasons. I could no longer justify keeping that shiny black paperweight on my TV stand any longer. I might as well have plopped down $400 cash and left it on my TV stand.

When it drops in price again or a Blu standalone becomes affordable for the masses I'll buy one. Not until then.

What about about feedback controller for the PS3? Have to purchase Dual Shock 3. All three systems will nickel and dime you if you let them.

Well I have all 3. I would say go for the wii. I really love what they are doing with the motion sensing and the wiimote. I like playing tennis where I have to actually swing my "racket" to hit the ball. They are also leading the pack with the party games. I like the fact that anyone can pick it up and play it. I take mine to family events so all generations can play and have a good time. The only downside is playing online is still pretty limited but it is growing fast.

PS3 I think it is great too but I don't think it is really what you are looking for based on what you said you are looking for.

I have a Wii and a 360. So far, the only time I ever spend playing the Wii is when I'm waiting for the return of my RROD'd 360. But I'm about to cure that by getting a second 360 - so hopefully I'll always have at least one 360 working.

I've been thinking a lot about getting a second console myself lately, and I've decided on a Wii. My personal reasons: I don't want/need a blu-ray player, I like that the Wii is completely different (I can't see why I'd want a 360 and a PS3 if I don't care about Blu-Ray, they're pretty much identical experience-wise), and lastly and importantly, the Wii has a hight WAF. The 360 is great for my late-night FPS kill fests, but when I want to play something with my wife, I think the Wii will be perfect. As I type this, my wife is sitting next to me playing Tomb Raider and she's moving the controller around unconsciously in the air like it's a Wiimote (I remember my mother used to do this too for some reason in the 80's when I played Nintendo with her)! I think she's more than ready for the Wii lol.

I have the Wii, PS3, and XBOX 360 Elite, they are all great systems. If you can afford to have all three, and love all different types of games, there is no reason not to get them all. It just comes down to what you want, everyone has different opinions:D.

The Wii would be the better buy. I'm really not a fan of the system but the top multiplayer games you can get on PS3 (like Rock Band) are also on the 360.

It's great for the younger folks for obvious reasons. It's also good for the slightly older folks since it's full of old titles (Virtual Console and lots of re-releases of old titles). The "party" games are fun and all, but there's no better party game than Rock Band--which is much better on PS3 and 360.

Ok, if you are 17, get the Wii. Why? Chicks dig the Wii. The 360 will be for your guy friends, and the Wii will be for saying things like "Hey babe, wanna come back to my place and bowl?"

Seriously though, if it was me, I'd probably go for the Wii. This is assuming that you are interesting in GAMES, and Blu-Ray and other features are kindof secondary.

Reasoning? Well, the PS3 has some good exclusives (MGS2, RFOM 1 and 2, Drake), but the games really just aren't THAT different from the games on 360. Sure RFOM is a good FPS, but is it really that different from all the other FPS's you've played or can play on 360? Not really.

However, there is nothing on either the PS3 or 360 like Mario Galaxy, or WiiFit, or bowling, or Zelda, or even how cool the motion sensor is used in Metroid.

I'm just saying the 360 and PS3 offer similar gaming experiences, while the Wii offers a completely different experience that you can't find on the other two systems.

Or for a bad analogy, you could say if the PS3 was vanilla, the 360 would be french-vanilla (very similar to vanilla), while the Wii is Chocolate (completely different). Would you rather have two slightly different vanilla cones, or one vanilla and one chocolate for more variety.

And don't forget....chicks dig the Wii. As far as I know, nobody has ever played a game of strip-Metal Gear Solid with their date, but strip-bowling is a favorite pasttime of Wii-owners who invite women back to their place (or at least I assume it is....and if it's not, the chances of it are about a million times greater with bowling than it is with MGS).

I would never consider the Wii because most of my gaming is alone/online. However, when I go to parties, one of my friends always brings the Wii and wii have a lot of fun. The Wii is a very social machine lol. I will jump in the boat with the 360 + Wii crowd. 360=fun, Wii=Fun with Dick and Jane.

I have all three and I'd suggest a Wii. The 360 gets the majority of my personal play time. The Wii gets several hours a week when I play with the wife or I throw in one of the Wii exclusives such as Zelda or Super mario Galaxy. I also take my Wii with me when I go to my vacation home, as it is a perfect party machine for any age group and we do a lot of entertaining there. It will probably get over 20 hours of play over Memorial day weekend. My PS3 gets very little game time. It's used mainly for movies. I do have Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank and they were fun to play. But overall, like others have said, most games for PS3 can be had on the 360 as well, and I think the top Wii exclusives are more fun than the top PS3 exclusives

I would say PS3, I own a couple 360s and had a Wii. I had it for about 3-4 months and after that it never got turned on. I grew up on Mario and Zelda and Metroid but could not, for the life of me, get into the newer iterations. Maybe someday I will pick up one cheap and try again. Your 17, get a PS3, it is such a better value for the money than a Wii, not to mention the games. Just my .02

I have all 3 consoles as well (along with a PSP). I am a little biased as I have kids, but the Xbox (I have 2) gets the lion share of time and my kids play the Xbox more than the Wii. However, there are some great games on teh Wii (Mario Galaxy, Smash brothers, Mario Cart, etc) that are just plain fun, especially when playing against others. The motion sensor is great, and the most interesting thing is that the $9.99 stearing wheel that you use for mario cart is probably one of the best wheels you can use for a racing game becaus eof the motion sensing. The PS3 is used mainly for Blu-rays. Now I do have a home theater setup, with a projector, so watching movies in HD makes a big difference. If you have a home theater setup, and watching blu-ray movies is very important, then the PS3 might be an option, but for gaming, there is really nothing that excites me about the PS3. I was transiently excited about Resistance 2, but with Gears 2 comming out later this year, I am never going to play Resistance. Unless you are a die hard Metal gear follower, there really is nothing unique that PS3 is offereing this year that cannot be had on the Xbox. My vote is for the Wii (and yes girls like the Wii).

sounds like your decision comes down to whether you want a system that you can play with casual gamer friends (wii) or not. ps3 is a good choice if that isn't a concern and you are interested in blu ray. otherwise you are pretty much set with the 360.

Mario Kart online is pretty good, it's nowhere near Xbox Live but it's good. Funny story: I was playing Mario Kart online and the wife says to me "I think that's fake" and I laughed and said "why"? I actually played Zelda all the way through. The thing is, five years ago, 480P might have been acceptable to me. These days, it's definitely not. Not to mention I really dislike the Wii control system. It just makes me feel dumb to be waving my arms around for relatively lo-fi control. Those two stumbling blocks are so huge to me personally that I'd rather not waste my time even looking for good games.

I come mostly from a high-end PC gaming background so I've been playing 1280x1024 or higher res for many years. (1920x1200 for the last three plus)

Ha that's funny - I've historically been heavy into PC gaming too (right now I have an "older" overclocked quad core and an 8800GTX). Lately though, I'm finding that sitting at computer on a desk is waay too similar to my day job and the comfort of my couch totally trumps resolution. I even setup with my feet up and pillows under my arms for support during Wii shooter games like RE4 and Metroid Prime 3.

I don't have a PS3, so I might be wrong on this, but I agree with the people who have said that the experiences on the PS3 and 360 are way too similar (ie, they both specialize in the same style games). It seems pointless to me to have both.

I agree as well with ZyronEnder, there are actually quite a few very good games for the Wii. I would add Mario Kart to that list as well, its not necessarily a hardcore game, but its a lot of fun online and off. I'll mention more offbeat games like Elebits and Trauma Center but I'm sure that won't convince most. Zack & Wiki (so what, it looks like a kids game, its a great puzzle game), No More Heroes, Super Paper Mario, and Boom Blox (its a little too easy, and looks kiddy, but its definitely an entirely new experience). There's too many of this sort of game too, but Mercury Meltdown Revolution works great on the Wii.

I have a 360 and Wii. Each one gets equal use. I'll eventually get a PS3, but there just simply aren't enough compelling exclusives to justify getting it, when I already have a PC and 360.

The Wii has great party games (and Boom Blox is the latest on that list), but it does have plenty of good single-player games...and Mature titles like Madworld ARE on the way and games like No More Heroes and RE:Umbrella Chronicles are already out there. The Wii DOES have a lot of lousy games. That comes with being the leading console out there...just ask the PS2.

The fact is that the PS3 isn't going to get nearly as many exclusives that you won't be able to get on the 360 as compared to the Wii. And the Wii is getting some pretty damn good stuff through Wiiware, like World of Goo, Lost Winds and others.

If you're going to get a PS3 (and Bluray does make it worthwhile), then I'd recommend waiting for the inevitable price-drop later this year.

hmmmm

"Warning - Probability of bolded sets intersecting is less than 0.01%. Re-enter parameters?"

mproper raises some excellent points with regards to social gaming - with men or women - being excellent fun on the Wii, the major checkbox being that there's games you can play with anyone, including "non-gamers." Think of the big-name MP titles on 360 or PS3. Halo 3. COD4. Warhawk. What do these have in common? Intensely competitive FPS/3PS "blow-s$#!-up" games. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but sometimes a change is good.

That, and the aforementioned "chick factor" doesn't bode well if your games attract a bunch of collar-popping, Abercrombie-and-Fitch-wearing, fist-pounding beer-bonging frat boy douchetards to hang around in your room and use "Bro" every other word, intermixed with "English word for a bundle of sticks" and other insults.

Just a thought. ;)

The 360 can do everything that the PS3 can do with regards to media, other than play Blu-Ray, of course. They are both about the same, except the 360 is also a Windows Media Center extender, which can be useful for watching Netflix "Watch Now" titles, as well as being a DVR extender, etc...
