Alright, I've been living in the realm of SD Televisions for a long time.

Ever since Criterion announced that they would be developing their DVDs in the Blu-Ray format very shortly, I've been more interested in making the leap to the HD.

Here's what I want to be able to do:
- Watch HD television. (I was thinking that the Rogers HD PVR box will let me do this, right? Or is there a cheaper way?)
- If possible, within reasonable price, record HD television - I guess that's called PVR?
- Blu-Ray movies... this is the main draw, I want my movies to look as great as possible. Is there such a thing as a **** player out on the market? Or are they all reasonably the same/good?

Here's the price I'm looking at:
Underneath $2000. Or $2500 for all three of those things I mentioned.

Here's my requirement:
I want full HD, so 1080p and all that.

Here's what I've been looking at so far:
Click (http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/ProductDetailDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=1004215&navigationPath=n32050n100188).

Thanks very much to anyone who has the time/know-how to help me.

It is possible to get started with all of the above for under $2500, depending on your preferences. The Display forum is the appropriate place to discuss displays (many of which include HDTV tuners), so I won't go into that, other than to suggest that you will want to consider your viewing distance and room lighting in addition to cost when choosing a display.

An important initial question is how you want to receive HD broadcasts. Digital cable and digital satellite services have their own DVR (digital video recorder) hardware that they will rent to you with little or no up-front cost, although you will pay quite a bit over time as part of the subscription. Reception of free off-the-air HD signals with the tuner built into the TV may work for you depending on where you live and what antenna hardware you can install, but availability of devices for recording free off-the-air signals in HD is rather limited right now (e.g. the HD TIVO, which has its own expenses to factor in.)

Your preferences and where you live will determine the best choice for you.

Personally I'd head over to Sams club if you have one near you. Pick up a Sony BR player for <$300. As far as a TV if you're <7 feet from the screen look for a 32" LCD, if >8 feet look into a larger Plasma or LCD. I believe you'll find the 42" plasmas to be a great deal price wise. I'm personally looking into a Panasonic 42pz80u at retail stores(no wholesale clubs yet) for ~$1440 on sale.
Both of those would <$2000. I think the Sony BR is only $399 at retail so maybe you'd just want to get both as a place like BB. Note I hadn't heard Criterion was going to release DVDs in BR. That might also prompt me to seriously check out a BR player. Their my favorite DVD line. I love the quality they put into their transfers and would think they would really shine on BR.
