I have no idea about the Elite, but the old 360 did no DVD upconversion at all.

Old 360 upconverts stuff only with VGA cable. Newer units do it with VGA and HDMI.

I own both. The PS3 is awesome compared to the Xbox360. The latter firmwares made the PS3 rival the Toshiba XA2 in PQ when dealing with SD over HDMI.
