Hi,
I'm looking at the Denon DVD-758 $350 and the Denon DVD-1740 $150.

The DVD-758 has an Faroudja interlace to progressive chip, which I think is the major contributor to the price difference.

Is it worth it?

Also under features on the Denon site: http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/3744.asp the DVD 1740 is capable of 1080p upscale. But under specs, selectable upscaling is unchecked. What's up with this?

thanks

What type of HDTV do you have? I've seen a good Faroudja player (Denon 3910) + a Samsung DLP = one crappy looking picture. The image so was choppy and blacks were so pixelated it was unwatchable.

Try and audition your dvd player with your HDTV so you won't be surprised.

Will you be connecting with HDMI? If so the Farouja chip will not be used anyways.

The Faroudja chip should be used anytime deinterlacing is done (and I guess scaling too since it's all done in one chip).

Niko, If you are going to spend $350, spend $400 and get the Oppo 983. No worries after that. :) Remember that Faroudja chips can enhance macroblocking with some displays.
