Hi,

I've been trying to get my 1930CI calibrated with my 5308CI receiver & XBR5 TV with little success. When playing BlueRay DVD's from my PS3, the sound and picture is absolutely incredible. When playing DVD's from the 1930CI, the black levels are all messed up and i get a lot of pixelation.

Current settings:

Video
TV Aspect: 16:9 Wide
Progressive: On
Prog. mode: Auto 1
HDMI select: YCbCr
HDMI Picture: Normal

Audio
DRC: Off
LPCM select: On
Dolby: Bitstream
DTS: Bitstream
Bass enhancer: Off
Audio mode: HDMI
HDMI Audio: Multi channel
Analog Audio: Multi channel

With all the horsepower in the 5308, i'm wondering of maybe the settings are stepping on each other somehow?

Any/all suggestions welcome.

What is the 1930CI outputting to your 5308? 480p, 720p, 1080i or 1080p? I wouldn't use the scaler in the 1930CI at all. I would just output 480p and let the 5308 do the rest.

fuzzy, thanks for the suggestion.

right now it's set at 1080p, let me change it to 480p and try again. should i change anything else?

ok, i made that change and didn't change anything else. it might be incrementally better.

i then tried changing the hdmi picture setting from normal to enhanced, and that might have helped a little bit more.

even after both of those changes, it still looks pretty crappy compared to PS3 output (and yes i know it shouldn't be equal, but i was hoping to get closer).

Make sure the black enhancement feature is off. This setting is not in the menu's - you have to hit the mode button until you get the "gray scale" icon. If this is set to "on" it could be could be the culprit.

Not a Problem :)

I have the 1920 and had the same issue. I still can not figure out what the HDMI "Enhanced" setting is all about though.

i was going to ask you about that one too, but didn't want to push my luck. i have a request into Denon to see what they say, but my expectations are pretty low as i get all my answers here, and not many from them.
