View Full Version : Why couldn't HBR audio codecs work in 1.1?

HDMI 1.1 can support 8 channels of 24 bit uncompressed audio. My understanding is that the new high bit rate lossless codecs, like DD TrueHD and DTS MA actually use less bandwidth than uncompressed PCM. If my understanding is correct, then why couldn't HDMI 1.1 support the new audio codecs? What specifically was missing from the 1.1 spec to allow these codecs to be transmitted?
