I'm building a linux box that will primarily serve to host a couple of websites and a code repository. I can pretty much use SSH and VNC (from my laptop) for most of my needs with this box and will not really need a monitor.

I have a 32" Sharp LCD TV that I plan to use as a temporary monitor (initial install, troubleshooting, ..) via its HDMI-in port.

The initial plan was to get a graphics card that had an HDMI-out that I could connect to the HDMI-in on my TV. Looking at parts, I see that there are motherboards available that have HDMI-out too.

I'm lost - which one should I get? Are the HDMI ports on the mobo and gfx card "similar enough" for the purposes I outlined above?

Any recommendations for mobos or gfx cards with hdmi-out are most welcome. (q6600 cpu, 8G ram, 2TB SATA - all else is flexible).

Thanks!

Yeah, that's more than fine. OVerkill really, since all you need to see is a picture.

Some motherboards can actually output excellent video on-board, but unless you're going to do hardcore gaming or be watching high-def content with more advanced codecs (h.264, vc1) etc and want to shift processor strain to a GPU rather than the main processor, onboard video is fine. And for literally just setting up the computer and troubleshooting there is no reason to buy a video card.
