I have been finding that on a very large screen mosquito noise has become one of the most annoying digital noises, I find it worse than film grain. I'm wondering if there are any dvd players with good mosquito noise reduction. I understand the Toshiba HD-XA2 does, but I don't know if its any good, and I hate to buy an HD DVD player like that just because it might have good noise reduction. I understand the new Oppo does not have noise reduction for this purpose but rather a more general type, which I find just softens the image. I know there are separate video processors, but when I'm not quite ready to make that financial plunge, I just bought the projector, and have other projects looming for the moment. I would want a unit that has both good processing features, like the noise reduction, if possible, as well as good overall dvd performance, such as scaling, and deinterlacing. If the Oppo 983 had better noise reduction I would get it, I was very impressed with its video, but I don't know if I'm going to end up wanting better reduction of mosquito noise or block noise, and find myself wanting an outboard processor. I even find HD DVD's and Blurays have this problem in some cases, and it can be really obnoxious at times. I understand Algolith has a device for under 1000 that might work?

I am looking to pick up a Denon 2930 for the same reason - I hate misquito noise. It lists right on the Denon website it has this feature, and I hear there are multiple adjustments if you don't want the picture too soft.
I was also looking at the Oppo 983 - but it sounds like the Denon may be better.
PS3 has mosquito noise reduction on SD-DVD playback with upconversion to 1080p via HDMI. Of course it also plays BD (does not have mosquito noise reduction as it does not need it) and games.
Toshiba HD-DVD HD-XA2 has mosquito noise reduction also. It plays SD-DVD very well due to Reon chipset. It can do HD-DVDs which can be bought pretty cheap these days.
Thanks for the info. I knew about the PS3 and Toshiba, wasn't aware of the Denon. The Oppo doesn't have the noise reduction as far as I can tell, so I don't think its an option.
As for Blueray not needing it, I don't know about all that. I've found some noisy HD movies, including mosquito noise. It may be a result of a bad transfer, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, and it doesn't mean it doesn't need some help.
