View Full Version : Spiltting 360 vga to 2 TV's
gutlass 05-20-08, 05:08 PM I've been at this for a while and searched all the web. Im using the VGA cable to connect my 360 to 2 tv's. TV1 is in the living room with the 360 and the TV2 is in the bedroom.
First I tried using just a vga Y-cable and one tv got signal and the other did it. All the cables are good because I hooked the 360 one tv at a time and it worked no problem.
Now I just tried a vga splitter and signal booster and the same thing. Only one tv will get signal. Any ideas?
DaGamePimp 05-20-08, 05:20 PM What you need is a powered VGA Multiplier with enough bandwidth to handle HD resolutions (assuming both displays are HiDef) .
Monoprice sells these for very reasonable prices .

My bedroom tv is a new SONY bravia 40" XBR4
Someone told me that the sony might be a bandwidth hog.?
And my living room is a 2 year old samsung 56"DLP
mboojigga 05-20-08, 05:56 PM What is the benefit?
Either way, what resolution are you trying to output from your 360 with VGA? I don't recall the XBR4's accepting 1080p from the 360. It can do 1080p for VGA but you have more freedom with resolutions with a PC which is what the manual is specifying the optional resolution and Hz settings.
gutlass 05-20-08, 05:59 PM Im not having a problem getting the 360 to work on any of the TV's. I'm having a problem getting tv's to get signal. If the TV in the bedroom is getting signal then the TV in the bedroom isn't and vice versa.

No one said you were having a problem getting them to work on one or the other. We know what you are trying to do. What I am asking is what setting do you have the 360 for resolution set at as you try to output with the device to both displays?
gutlass 05-20-08, 07:29 PM The resolution is set at 1920x1080, Both TV's are 1080p HD
gutlass 05-20-08, 07:41 PM OH and no 300 is complete without these http://www.focuztech.com/xcart/product/300-Angel-Eyes-headlamps-html
mboojigga 05-20-08, 07:46 PM The resolution is set at 1920x1080, Both TV's are 1080p HD
Have you tried to change 360's resolution to 720p or 1080i to see if both will accept it with those outputs since it is not working with 1080p output?
gutlass 05-20-08, 07:51 PM U hit it, Changed it to 1280x1024 and it works on both at the same time.
DaGamePimp 05-20-08, 08:05 PM Like I had stated in my previous response , you need a High Bandwidth Multiplier (especially for 1080p to multiple displays at the same time) ;) .

gutlass 05-23-08, 12:14 PM Does anyone know of a splitter that can handle a 1920x1080 resolution?
HeadRusch 05-23-08, 03:33 PM http://www.svideo.com/vgamultiplier.html This one claims High Bandwidth, 400Mhz.....
I just bought a $99 Component Video 1x4 distribution block from Inday that works great, but its component.
DaGamePimp 05-23-08, 04:37 PM Monoprice sells 400 Mhz Multipliers for great prices ;) .

steven975 05-23-08, 05:28 PM a splitter will weaken the signal. It sounds like the signal may be below the threshold of the XBR4, especially given the high bandwidth.
jcmccorm 05-23-08, 05:56 PM That splitter at Newegg pointed to above should have done the trick. That thing buffers the input and drives both outputs; it won't be weaker. It's got 250MHz BW and that's enough for HD. Something else is going on.

DaGamePimp 05-23-08, 06:18 PM Possible ...
Is one of the VGA cables really long ?

HeadRusch 05-23-08, 06:36 PM Guys, that device states in the link that it has a resolution of 1600x1200...could be the thing doesn't handle frequencies reliably enough above that, or even if it does the interference or drop off is bad enough.....dunno, stretching a bit but.....I've never tried to run VGA any significant distance.
gutlass 05-27-08, 01:11 PM The longest VGA run I have is 25ft. And as stated above the splitter I had said it was only good for 1600x1200 resolution. IM getting the new one today so well see how this one handles it. Now I just gotta wired up the audio
