I have seen pictures of small tv monitors inside peoples video closet and was wondering how the setup works and what is the recommended size and brand for this sort of thing. What is the main use of this monitor?

I have a small monitor on top of my rack that runs out of the "record-out" of my receiver which I used for setting up the DVD changers, working with the DVR, and anything else I want to do without turning on the projector. For example I have a Dish Network DVR in the theater, and sometimes I want to setup a recording on that DVR, but to turn on the projector to do that is lunacy. I merely turn on the 13" Tube TV/monitor, setup the recording, and then turn it back off.

Also if I am playing music from the MediaMVP, or from Dish Network, I can leave the projector off, but still have the titles on the small screen.

If it were in a different room, then I would use it to "queue up" DVD's, and the like without the images going to the projector. This is kind of like a QUEUE channel on a radio board. It lets you look at the next source without the audience hearing/seeing what you are previewing.

As to size, anything that fits, as long as it is bigger than say 10". Anything smaller than that makes it difficult to see. As to brand and type, If you want a polished look, get a rack mounted flat panel, otherwise any good tv/video monitor with audio will work. Just make sure it has at least composite in for video. If you only have HD sources, and have no provisions for SD video, then you will need a HD monitor also, but everything I have seen will output both HD and SD at the same time.

I run a computer monitor in my theater. It is hooked up to my pre/pro using a video to VGA converter. It allows me to make all sort of on screen changes without having my projector on.

Where did you find the converter? I have a extra flat screen computer monitor that may work out perfectly.

You can pick them up just about anywhere. I picked mine up on ebay for about $50. But there are many vendors available

Seller was advancegadget. Just type in VGA converter and it should find some.

I use a first generation LCD TV; essentially a 15" computer monitor (4:3) with a video input and a tuner.
