I'm a DIY'er and have a question that involves a Sony xbr970. It seems that everything i have read, be it from topics on this forum or elsewhere involving the Mid settings, IE Mid1-2 settings such as DHVP, DHHS etc. I have read that these particular settings affect the way the TV scans and degrades the picture quality if tweaked. After viewing some test patterns while changing these settings, i know for a fact this is true. BUT, without changing these i cannot get my overscan under 5% Whenever i lower settings like HSIZ, VSIZ and even after making sure the blanking settings are off the whole image is not there and not even centered, and the only way to fix this is to tweak the mid 2 settings. Now the 5% isn't bad when viewing cable television, but with videogames it is just horrible.
Do you guys ever tweak any of those mid settings when doing calibrations? Or should i just go back to the defaults for the mid 2 settings and live with the overscan, or is something wrong with how my set was set up at the factory and i should see about getting a Sony tech to take a look at it before thinking about getting it professionally calibrated? Thanks for any input.
