I have D* HD and i wanted to get another hd box for my bedroom. I called direct tv and it would cost $99 to start it up and another $5 a month on a lease.

I thought maybe i can just buy one and skip the $5 a month and $99 charge. I dont want dvr or tivo or any recording type device. Just a HD dable box that i can watch my HD channels on.

I guess im looking for an HD Tuner? if so, any recommendations one a relatively inexpensive one without tivo or dvr?

In short - no. The $5 charge isn't for the box, it's for the "additional receiver" fee you pay to D*. Even if you can buy a box off eBay (and their current HD boxes are long-term lease boxes, customers aren't really supposed to be reselling them, but returning them to D*), you'll still have to pay the monthly fee.

Also, beware buying just any DirecTV HD box. The older ones will not receive any of the new MPEG4 HD channels. The least DirecTV expensive HD options that get all the HD are the H20 or H21.
