--as the title states we received our stimulus check and want to purchase a new TV this weekend (or at least have it ordered!) i am looking for something in the 50-57" range. not sure of lcd or plasma. our room has vaulted ceilings, white walls, picture window to the left of screen and a window and sliding door to the rear. pretty well lit room. we get glare on our slowly dying 55" mits rptv during the day. i am looking for good PQ. watch mostly dishHD and an occasional movie (BR/PS3, HDDVD, SDDVD). i don't need the blackest blacks or biggest technical numbers. i have approx $2700 to spend.

--i know everyone has their own opinion on plasma vs lcd. also, i am aware of the "see for yourself" point of view as well. unfortunately, i live in rural iowa and will have to drive an hour before i can get to a b&m store. and these are limited to BB, AmericanTV, Sears, Costco, WM.
--so if anyone can offer some suggestions or help to point me in the right direction, i would greatly appreciate it. need any other info, lemme know. TIA....

I say go for cheaper tv, spend a little on the wife and the rewards will be much better in the long run ;)

Dish HD on a 57" screen?.....I don't know. I hope your eyesight isn't that great.

I say get a less expensive set and use the rest to put up an outside antenna.
