good day all,

i have upgradeitus real bad. my current setup is jble50 mains, jbl e35c, jbl venues for rears and a velodyne dsp10 sub. am looking at infinity beta 40 and 360 center on closeout. has anyone heard both models and would this be a big difference in sound quality? have also been looking at aperion on line.
anyone who has heard these speakers and what are your thoughts. the speakers are driven by a denon 2106

thanks

kevin

I haven't heard the Beta 40's, but I do have the Alpha 50's, the predecessor of the Beta (and quite similar). I haven't heard the JBL's you have either, but I am going to take a stab at it with my opinion.

Those JBL's are horizontal/vertical. I'm going to bet the Infinity's will throw off a much better soundstage due to the fact they are designed for vertical use only. I believe the tweeter also has a waveguide for better direction on the highs. You are also getting arguably better speaker cone material with the Infinity's (CMMD). The Beta 360 center is really good, I have the Alpha 37c, it's older brother, and it sounds fantastic. It's big, it's beefy, and has a dedicated midrange which helps with lobing issues.

So, IMHO, you will be getting a pretty decent upgrade. If you can find them, and can up the budget a tad, look for the Beta 50's, they step up to dual 8" woofers instead of 6.5". Hope this helps.

Thanks DamageMcramage,

still not sure if i am going to pull the trigger, vanns has the beta's in stock again. i have had the jbl setup for about 4 years now and i just get the itch to upgrade. i like the jbls , but i listen to alot of concert dvds...loud.. and sometimes they can get shrill. i have heard the beta 50 is the better way to go. but no stores in st louis carry them anymore. i am just looking for a smoother, more pleasant sound

thanks again
