Even this Analog HDTV from 1985 has far far darker blacks and better contrast ratio, motion resolution retention, response time, etc than even the 2008 Pioneer Kuros.
It won't be till the 2009 Pioneer Elite Extreme Contrast Concept where flat panel technology starts to catch up.

The only thing this post proves is how useless it is to compare only specifications when judging a TV. Go try feeding 1080P/24 to that 27" set and compare it to any new HD set.

I wouldn't let my dog watch TV on that set.

It's actually an 1125 line Analog HD Set but only 1035 lines carry picture info so it's not exactly 480I.
Hell, the French had an 839 line HD system in 1948. The US was way behind Japan and Europe in HD

Doesn't look like a MUSE compatible TV set to me.

The guy who posted it on youtube said it was HD, maybe he was wrong, but it is HD according to him.

MUSE is a widescreen format and that TV looks decidedly 4:3.

Then perhaps it's an 839 line French Analog HDTV, but it still qualifies as HD.
Anything with over 720 lines of vertical resolution qualifies as HD.

Only if that TV came out of a time machine. That standard died almost as fast as HD-MAC did. Incidentally the 819 line standard only had about 500 pixels of horizontal resolution, meaning it didn't really have much more resolution than 720x576 in practice.

Anything with over 720 lines of vertical resolution qualifies as HD.
Semantically, sure.

Did you seriously come to this conclusion from watching a youtube vid of a tv ad from 1985?:p Also, how much HD content was available in 1985..

What relevance to today's market does that TV have? Today's panels are all about size, and the high def standard is all about presenting a decent picture on larger panels. Do remember how bad large screen rear projection sets were when they were 640x480 sets? That standard that you posted isn't much better than that. We all agree that high def CRTs had terrific pictures, and I still own one, but they topped out at 34" or so, and that's not the market any longer. Today's panels may be slightly less contrasty than those small sets, but so what? Relax and enjoy the picture you are getting, and the immersive qualities of the large screen!

Everytime I look at a LCD I wonder how people like them. The noise and motion blur and artifacts make me want to kick the tv....

Everytime I look at a CRT I wonder how people like them. The geometry problems and flicker and artifacts make me want to kick the tv....

Everytime I look at a DLP I wonder how people like them. The clayface and rainbows and artifacts make me want to kick the tv....

Everytime I look at a plasma I wonder how people like them. The pixel structure and white levels and artifacts make me want to kick the tv....

If there was a perfect display technology everyone would buy that and the others would die off.
