I am using an Olevia 232V and a newly purchased computer a m9077c (link here: it will not let me post the link but it can be found by searching m9077c at buy . com and the graphics card is a nvidia 8500GT. I initially(after I found out that just the tv wouldn't work at all on its own) connected a monitor (vga via dvi converter) and the hdtv (via HDMI) at the same time to find a resolution that the tv would display. The resolutions that are reccomended for the tv would not and will not work such as: 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 720, 1280 x 768, and 1360 x 768(the ideal choice.) The resolution that I am currently using is 1216 x 1084 and as a result the picture is smaller than the screen. I can successfully resize it but everytime I reboot or my computer goes to sleep it shrinks again. And when I try to play video games like Diablo II the monitor says invalid format and displays a black screen until I exit the game. Hopefully someone can tell me how to get the standard resolutions to work because I am baffled and do not have any other monitor as the one I used to find initial resolutions belonged to a friend. Thank you all in advance for you assistance.

Do a straight VGA to VGA connection from the computer to the TV.

I have the exact same TV and I use 1360x768 in 1:1 aspect ratio (not stretched the extra 6 pixels).

I prefered the VGA over HDMI because the HDMI was TOO sharp, and it looked sparkly.

VGA look fantastic.

Hope it helps.

Edit: Needed to add that what I say is true only if you calibrate your TV, otherwise it is painful to look at IMO!

the computer does not have a vga port which is why it came with a dvi to vga converter thank you for the suggestion though.

Maybe the refresh rate or scan rate is too high?

Check that, might help.

I set the refresh rate to the reccomended 60 hz and I am unfamiliar with the term scan rate unless it means the same thing. But I tried the reccomended resolutions at all the refresh rates available to no avail.

I'm using 1360x768 @ 60hz refresh rate via VGA and it's working great.

I can't imagine why HDMI would give you a problem.

Did you get the latest NVIDIA drivers off of their site for you video card?

Did you look into Powerstrip?

You can google it.

It provides ALL sorts of resolution and timing adjustments.

I just installed powerstrip and tried to change the resolution using that and that did not work either.
