View Full Version : Dealsouthonline scam
jlivengo 05-22-08, 10:21 PM Just a heads up to anyone looking to do business with Dealsouthonline. They're nothing but scam artists. They try to sell you a plasma / lcd super cheap but tack on huge hidden / bogus charges. They also charged me for a 3 year extended warranty and won't refund my money.
Fortunately their account on e-bay was suspended for these practices but they still have a website. Anyone looking to do business with them don't do it.
creemail 05-22-08, 10:48 PM Not the place to bash other retailers, but anything bought on ebay is known to have hidden charges. Always buy through a true ecommerce website with laid out terms and conditions! ;)
Chris
Cleveland Plasma 05-23-08, 02:02 AM There are a "few" great retailers on e-bay. Do your home work as always and "never" pay with paypal over $2000, use a credit card direct.
The statement about deals down south is true though.
ROMAN O 05-23-08, 02:04 AM Chris I thought it was 1K, but the point is I agree :)
Personally, I am a little hesitant to buy a big screen TV online. And this is coming from somone who was buying 286 motherboards on Fidonet long before HTTP ever existed. However, if I do buy online, it will only be from a very reputable place. You know- like our forum sponsors.
Most companies, including many brick and mortar stores, don't care about their reputation and don't feel that they are accountable to customers. In contrast, the forum sponsors have their good name on AVS on the line every time they make a sale. Considering how demanding we AVS members are, I honestly don't know how they do it.

Anyone looking to do business with them don't do it.I just googled them and found links to a number of complaints similar to yours and negative customer reviews, as well as obviously faked good reviews which don't mention anything about the hidden charges or mandatory insurance.
They're listed on Resellerratings dot com but have no customer reviews yet so you should go there and write a negative review and tell the world how they ripped you off.

People get lured in by the great price. In fact I came up with a little slogan due to this: "THE BEST PRICE IS NOT ALWAYS THE BEST DEAL."
As a sponsor, AVS members actually are easy to deal with, all they want is a little service, advise, and respect. These places with the super low prices only have bait and switch tactics. When the day is done, there customer service is not very good either.
creemail 05-23-08, 08:39 AM I just think eBay powerseller statistics are always padded. I agree with Randy and you should check for reseller ratings when looking for reviews on companies. You can only only give the seller one sentence on their service vs. giving them praise on how they felt throughout the process.

jlivengo 05-23-08, 08:21 PM Agreed about bashing retailers. I'm not trying to be negative about Deal South online, just providing a heads up. I'll post this info on resellerratings as well.
I did pay with a credit card but I'm unable to obtain a partial refund for the bogus shipping / insurance / warranty charges. They grouped all the charges together, didn't itemize it.

Wow! I agree with Cleveland. The lowest price isn't always the best price.

Thats a great way of putting it.
I was wondering if anyonew here has had any experience with "Pricemad"???
I saw them advertised on here once. I don't know if they are an AVS sponsor anymore but I have heards some bad stuff from a friend. Just wondering if Pricemad is a good seller. I see some negative feedback on them. and alot of positives also. but the funny thing is that anyone can leave feedback on some of these sites so maybe they leave thier own feedback to fool buyers?
Cleveland Plasma 05-23-08, 08:49 PM No they are not. Another NY Retailer.
chadmak09 05-23-08, 08:56 PM ewww.
I just looked up pricemad at resellerratings.com and it looks like they have multiple names.
So "PCVideoOnline" and FiveStarPlasma and Pricemad are all the same people.
I guess the word gets out about them so they switch thier name.
And ,man o man,
What horrible feedback
creemail 05-23-08, 08:59 PM chadmak09,
Yes its sad, but true. Stores that are into scamming people don't deserve to be in business. They advertise low prices to lure you in and once they have your credit card on file they can do whatever they want. Very sad. No business integrity.
Chris
Here is a link which shows some store fronts of some of the scumbag (Not all NY stores) NY ripoff joints. Pretty scary.

Thanks for heads up. How did you actually get scammed though? Did you agree to one price with the seller and another charge (inclusive of all the add-ons) actually hit your credit card statement? Wouldn't that be illegal or at the very least allow you to void the transaction w/ the credit card company? In that case, this is a simple dispute resolution case for your credit card where they refund your money.

Well what happens is that you will check out as the price as is within the shopping cart, but will eventually charge your credit card a different amount with a follow up email. Pretty typical...

Did you actually think you'd get something for nothing?? Why do people go for the cheapest price thinking they are getting something special and then complain when the problems begin. You didn't do your homework. You wanted cheap. You got cheap and more. Learn for the next time.

Chris
Isn't that illegal? What prevents them from charging my card for $100k after I check out for $1k?
Cleveland Plasma 05-25-08, 09:08 AM I do no think it would be called "illegal", however it is not the right thing to do. Any charges, without a card holders consent, that are applied to a credit card can be disputed.
The bottom line is what townofturley said above are harsh but true, "Did you actually think you'd get something for nothing?? Why do people go for the cheapest price thinking they are getting something special and then complain when the problems begin. You didn't do your homework. You wanted cheap. You got cheap and more. There is nothing free in this world. If the price is to good to be true, usually it is or at the very least should throw up a red flag. We get price match phone calls that are so low, our comment back to these clients are "We advise you not to purchase from them, that price is far below our personal cost, you will never see that item for that price."
townofturley comments are harsh yet true. We prefer to say: "THE BEST PRICE IS NOT ALWAYS THE BEST DEAL."
Cleveland Plasma 05-26-08, 09:12 AM I am sharing this so we all can learn.......
Here is an example from today:
"I am interested in purchasing a HL61A750 Samsung for my home in the US [Raleigh, NC 27612] when I return from Galway, Ireland June 23rd. I've been researching this online and the best price I've found so far is $1,593.99 delivered from Camera Addict.com Can you beat this price and if so can I order"
I sent the link below. On a scale from 1-10 they are at a .41 with 81 reveiws, wow !! Click below

jlivengo 05-30-08, 09:12 PM Understand that the best price is not always the best but they seemed to have a better track record of satisfaction than complaints. I guess the company just kinda imploded and took recent customers with them. What can I say? I still got my products, it just cost me a fair bit of aggravation and a bunk warranty that cost $250.
If someone would have posted a warning like this, maybe I wouldn't have purchased from them. Just trying to let people know that D & M Online is a scam.
