as the title states, i am looking to spend my incentive check, plus a little extra if necessary. so ~$2700. i would like to have it in hand or definitely ordered by sat.
i removed the blinders as i was stuck on lcd, but decided on plasma for PQ. the only problem i am running into is that i have a well lit room. i get plenty of glare from my dying mits rptv, so i am a bit leary from that aspect.
anyway, given my price range, can you please give me a couple of suggestions?? 50-60" range if possible, all viewing sources (ps3, br, hddvd, etc). read plenty of good about panny, pioneer, some samsung. please help!!! please....

TH-58PH10UKA is a Panasonic pro model 58 inch, great option also PZ800U Panasonic consumer 50 inch. A little above your budget you can look at the 5020FD Pioneer for pre order. Good luck!

spending gov't incentive check this weekend!First... you are a great American (http://www.hannity.com/).

Second... in your price range I recommend the PRO-1150HD (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/HomeEntertainment/PlasmaTVs+Monitors/EliteTVs/ci.PRO-1150HD.Kuro).

hey thanks for the replies!! not trying to start a huge debate, but will 720p v 1080i/p make a huge difference at 20-25 feet? could shorten the distance if we rearrange the living room but WAF comes into play. thanks again.

and omeletpants,
only the top link worked for me. i will try the search function and see if i can locate other daily threads. thanks..

If you seating position is 20-25 feet resolution is a non factor. What size of screen are you looking for?

At 20 - 25 feet you're going to need one BIG screen. There are people on this forum that sit 8-10 feet from their 60" screens

In your price range the TH-58PH10UKA is the answer.

For a little more......and probably worth the little cost difference...

Samsung PN58A550

Yup, you'll have to decide if size or PQ is more important.
With the Kuro or the 58" sets C.P. reccomended you can't really go wrong.

I would recommend rearranging the room to get within ~10-12 feet and run don't walk to purchase an 1150.

If he was a great American, he would actually take his depreciating dollars and buy some American Silver Eagles. Doing this would handcuff the private banking company known as the Federal Reserve from flooding the market with cheap money with the sole purpose of bailing out their member banks. Meanwhile causing massive inflation for the consumers to deal with. Did real interest rates for consumers decline for products like mortgages or credit card interest rates? No, the Federal Reserve has been slashing short-term interest rates since August with precious little effect on the 30 year mortgage. That rate is roughly where it was a year ago, while the discount rate, which is what banks pay to borrow directly from the central bank, is 2.25%. The Fed's opening of the spigot of cheaper money is supposed to spur across-the-board spending and economic growth, reversing the tide of recession, but bankers have in effect put a knot in the hose. The Fed will probably not cut anymore only because since Bear Sterns collapsed in March now they changed the rules and are allowing Investment banks that are insolvent like Lehman Brothers exchange their crap CDO's that nobody will buy on the free-market for Treasuries. This loan is for 28 days but the Fed has kept rolling it over to these pigmen since the Bear Sterns collapse. As you can see below from an article from the Wall Street Journal published today, Americans are starting to figure out that the Federal Reserve has been illegally stealing from them since 1913 and are taking appropriate actions. I suggest you do the same.

"The government rationed food during World War II and gasoline in the 1970s.
Now, it's imposing quotas on another precious commodity: 2008 dollar coins
known as silver eagles.

The coins, each containing about an ounce of silver, have become so popular
among investors seeking alternatives to stocks and real estate that the U.S.
Mint can't make them fast enough. In March, the mint stopped taking orders for
the bullion coins. Late last month, it began limiting how many coins its 13
authorized buyers world-wide are allowed to purchase.

"This came out of nowhere," says Mark Oliari, owner of Coins 'N Things Inc.
in Bridgewater, Mass., one of the biggest buyer of silver eagles. With
customers demanding twice as many as they did last year, Mr. Oliari would like to buy 500,000 a week. But the mint will sell him only around 100,000."

whoa!! go away to look at tv's for an afternoon and see what happens!! lol!!
i talked my wife into rearranging the living room area. i will now be ~8-12' depending on where i place the couch. will be directly in front of the set. i checkd out BB, Costco, AmericanTV today. the ~50" should suffice at that distance i assume?? i would love to go bigger, but WAF said we already have a dedicated theater room.

-should i be worried about glare. i have a 4x6' window behind where the couch will be. i could block out some of the light with curtains or new blinds if needed.
thanks again for all the help!!!

After reading this insightful post I have come to the conclusion that the 58" commercial or consumer Panny would be right for the OP depending on audio sources.;)

i had one last question. i have a 3 yr old son who has been known to "bump" the screen with an occasional item. my current set has an protective screen and was wondering if any of the sets mentioned, come with some type of protective screen as well. thanks again for the help!!

Cleveland Plasma
05-24-08, 11:11 PM
No they do not have a pertective screen, hang your unit higher than normal and then there will be no bumping. Another answer would be to put up a railing around the unit, a fence per say :D

i talked my wife into rearranging the living room area. i will now be ~8-12' depending on where i place the couch. will be directly in front of the set.Aha! Here it is again: a variation on the "Polish Upgrade" dilemma, originally posted as:

"I have a 50-inch display, it's too small. Should I pay $6,000 for a 65-inch display, or should I just move the couch closer?"

I believe the correct answer in that case was also proposed by a wife. Amazing how practical wives can be when money is involved, isn't it? Without them, of course, we wouldn't be as amused by the "103-inch Plasma" threads.

ok guys, figured i would wait til after the holiday (should we call it that?!?!) to post back. getting a little off topic, but hopefully we can get back on track. over the weekend i went to BB (had a coupon and they have the 30 day no hassle return) and although they did not have any of the sets i wanted to "sample" at home, i chose a panasonic 50px80u.
this will not be the final set, i just wanted to see if the glare was as bad as some say. the glare is very minimal even in my current set up. my wife loves the set and i am pretty impressed as well.
so now i am left to decide if i want a 50 or 58 inch set. is it safe to assume that all panny's will have the same anti-reflective surface or is this something only on the current models? also, at least my eyes, cannot distinguish that the display is only 720p. should i simply stick with 720p? rearranged room and sit ~10' from the set. thanks again for the continued help!!

Coggs

If you can hold-out for a bit, I would wait for the prices of the Sammy 58A650 (supposed to have better anti-reflection that the A550), or the LG 60PG60 to go down a bit. You don't really need to worry about 1080p on a 50" at your distance, but you're be right around the area where you start to notice it with a 58-60. If you do and up going for a 50" , there are benefits to going with a higher-end 2008 panny such as higher contrast ratio, but 1080p won't be one of them at your distance.

For the same/close price with out a doubt the 5080. I'm in the same 2K boat and considering a 5080 if they are still around (want to see the lg50pg60). Tried floating the $2599 5010 and that blimp crashed faster than the Hindenburg. :) For the record I'm no invading Pio fanboy:)
