Just bought a JVC 42" 1080p LCD tv. I've been playing with the picture setting's but I cant seem to get them right. Can someone help me out? I used a Disney DVD with THQ Optimizer to try and adjust setting's but it's still not as good as it could be. I seem to get a grainy picture espeacially in dark scenes. BluRay movies look good but not like they did on my 26" Vizio. Any one know where I can look to get some help or some kind of product that could help me out? My 26" Vizio look's great and I know this tv can look way better. Any help is apreaciated.

Greetings
Time to move to the next level of test disc with color/tint patterns and sharpness patterns and some color filters to help you set things.
DVE HD basics in Blu is available for fairly cheap.
It will help you get the 5 user settings down. Beyond that, you need to look into instrumentation and programs that drive those instruments.
Or it may come down to getting a pro to come in to work on the set ... if your time is worth more than the the cost for a pro to do this for you.

I figured that would be the case. Although i'm close to a desireable picture. Digital cable look's good a few tweak's and I may have it perfect. However my game's don't look as sharp as they did with my 26" Vizio. I think my Black and White's arent adjusted correctly. Any idea's on how I could tell if it's set to low or high?
Any idea? I ordered the blu ray disc should be here soon, any idea's on what I can do until then?

What can be done until then is to set your backlight to the midpoint. It's probably maxed at the factory.
Then get the set out of Vivid mode if it is in such. Pick Cinema/Movie or a User mode where you can make the following adjustments.
Contrast can stay at or around 80(instead of 100 where the factory probably set it).
I don't see appreciable dark level detail until Brightness is around 60 on most types of TVs, so setting there for now is fine.
Turn off all eye candy(digital NR, auto iris, auto black level, auto everything) and set sharpness to about 1/4 of the way up until you get a disc with patterns for all these things.
Set color temp to warm(warm 1 or 2 if available) and set color by eye.
My technique is to lower Color all the way on National Geographic or PBS, then slowly raise it until the color on those stations looks realistic or natural. Depending on your set's scale of adjustment(0-50, 0-63, or 0-100) color will probably end up set very low before you start to notice bleeding.
Again, these tips are valid ONLY until you get a test pattern DVD.
I've calibrated my tv to the best spec's that I could come up with and it look's very good. My game's for the PS3 and 360 look great. However when I watch HD Channel's I get some spot's espeacially in a dark scene, I believe this is called Noise. It's not as bad as it was before but it's noticeable. I've yet to test a Blu Ray movie so I can't comment on that. Is this normal or is there something else that needs adjusting? Or is it the tv? I couldn't find a option for setting the backlight on the disc so i tuned it to where it look's good. I'd like some input on what the spot's on the screen may be, because I still have some time to exchange the tv for something different.
Any input? Please help a guy out. I'd really apreaciate it.

greetings
You do know that there is no holy grail for TVs, don't you? Every TV technology type has its own series of weaknesses ... you simply trade one set for another.
A test disc won't really help you set back lighting. That has to do with the ambient light in the room.

I understand that and i'm fully aware that some tv's are better then others. However the reason I ask about the spot's is because I have time to exchange the tv for a different one, or even just return it all together and get something like a Samsung or Sony. I would just like to know if the spot's on the tv are from the tv or if there's a setting I can change to get rid of them. If it's the way the tv is then I will exchange for a Phillip's Ambilight or LG. Are there spot's because of the fact it's a bigger size? I had a 26" Vizio and it looked great.
