Hi All,

I am remodeling my living room and need some suggestions. My wife wanted to have a fireplace and of course I wanted to have the 50" plasma as the focal point. The room size is about 13.5 feet wide and it's connected to the open dinning area so I will probably end up with 13.5 x 12 feet to work with.

We will be using the corner space for it which will be 5' from each side that will have a wall space of about 7 feet. I have seem some of the pictures that have a TV hang on top of the fireplace but I think that's way too high for our living room. The only good looking picture that I have seen so far is the wide and short fireplace. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=13140357#post13140357 Is this a real fireplace? I love the design with the center speaker at the bottom. Anyone know where to get one of these? :-)

The second idea is to use the TV as a fireplace if needed. We will build it like a fireplace but just put a TV in it. Would that just look weird? Has anyone see this design?

thanks in advance,
~joy

Mounting TVs above fireplaces is ridiculous!
Heat, smoke, and ashes from the fireplace will ultimately damage the display; and
Unless you want to permanently damage your neck from looking UP at the screen, it should be at such a height that your eyeline falls in the center third of the screen height. Vertical viewing angle is measured at seated eye height from the front row center seat to the top of the tallest projected image. SMPTE notes that for most viewers physical discomfort begins when this angle exceeds 35 degrees!

I agree. My wife was big into wanting to put the tv over the fireplace, until I had her stare at the painting up there for about 10 minutes straight. Her enthusiasm quickly waned...

Don't worry about that. You can setup your LCD above the fireplace. I also Prefer you to choose electric fireplace. It would me grate for you...and it can't wired your LCD.
